The team:

Our business unit, Inbox, is a cross-functional team of about 60 engineers, product managers, designers and data analysts driving the development of Proton Mail, the company’s flagship product, and Proton Calendar. Our mission is to create an end-to-end encrypted solution with a better user experience than any other productivity products on the market. While that is not an easy journey, it is one that offers the chance to create meaningful impact and drive lasting change that we are fully committed to.

The Inbox Desktop team is responsible for developing desktop clients of Inbox, specifically the Proton Mail Desktop App, Proton Mail Bridge, and the Export tool. We are in the process of rebuilding our client applications on a new, innovative technology stack centered around cross-platform Rust code. We are looking for a Software Engineer with a Rust focus to accelerate this engineering transformation.

Tech Stack and Tools:

We use standard tools for communication and work organization (Git, GitLab, GitHub, GitLab CI, Jira, Confluence). Our backend runs on premise in Proton’s data centers, and all our client-code is open source and GPL3.

Purpose of the role:  

As a Software Engineer in the Inbox Desktop team, you will play a crucial role in driving the development of one of Proton's most vital desktop offerings, the Proton Mail Desktop App. We expect you to be customer-centric, continuous learner, passionate about technology and usability. The role:

You will be responsible for designing, building, maintaining and evolving Proton applications on Windows. This includes not only building the application internals (managing and syncing local and remote state, performing cryptographic operations, etc) but also helping us to build a resilient, scalable application (graceful degradation; log and metrics streams free of personally identifiable information). You will be involved in the entire application lifecycle, including Gitlab configuration, deployments, monitoring and alerting, and operational incident response. While this position is not a "full-stack" position, you will be expected to collaborate with backend engineers to drive any necessary changes and/or new features needed for the Windows experience.

What you will do:

• Be part of a small team working to bring a "privacy by default" solution to our clients on Windows.
• Develop an application that delights a wide range of users, from layperson to technical, and gives confidence that their online privacy is in good hands - while getting the complexity of end-to-end encryption out of the way.
• Invest in testing and automation to improve the team's productivity and software delivery cadence.
• Think critically on how to divide problems into iterations of simpler, composable solutions. Re-evaluate the minimum scope as necessary to meet objectives on-time.
• Insist on high standards for application monitoring and alerting, in order to ensure a smooth customer experience at all times.

• Strong experience in .NET development
• Strong experience building and maintaining Desktop Windows applications

Overview

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across platforms. What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope to get faster feedback from customers, navigate the integration/UX tradeoffs relevant to different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross-platform SDK
• Optimize existing functionality to ship things like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing more efficient abstractions and improving our algorithms

The team:

Proton VPN enables millions of people to connect securely and privately, even in places where the internet is restricted or unreliable. Delivering that experience means our service must perform flawlessly under highly variable, real-world conditions.

We are looking for a Senior Performance Engineer to lead our efforts in making Proton VPN the fastest, most resilient, and most reliable VPN service in the world.

You will define and drive the measurement, analysis, and optimization of Proton VPN’s end-to-end performance, across clients, platforms, and global infrastructure. You’ll help ensure that every connection is fast, stable, and private, regardless of where the user is or what network they’re on.

What you will do: 

• Design and own Proton VPN’s performance framework, defining metrics and KPIs that reflect the real-world experience of users (time-to-connect, throughput, latency, stability, reconnection rates, etc.).
• Develop distributed testing systems that simulate real network conditions, including low bandwidth, packet loss, and high-latency scenarios.
• Continuously measure and analyze performance across platforms (desktop, mobile, backend) and regions to identify bottlenecks and regressions.
• Collaborate with backend, R&D, and client teams to optimize protocol handling, connection setup, routing, and encryption performance.
• Create dashboards, reports, and automated alerts to track global performance health.
• Contribute to the design of resilient connectivity strategies that adapt dynamically to variable network conditions.
• Serve as the performance champion within the engineering organization, mentoring others and driving a data-driven performance culture.

Job requirements: 

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of experience in performance engineering or systems QA, ideally in networking, VPNs, or distributed systems.
• Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, TLS, WireGuard, debugging, manipulating, and performance profiling tools.
• Proven ability to analyze latency, throughput, and stability metrics across multiple layers (client, OS, transport, application).
• Proficiency in Python (or similar scripting language)
• Familiarity with network emulation and simulation tools (e.g., tc/netem, iperf, IPTables/nfTables…).
• Experience with monitoring and observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cross-platform experience with Linux, macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS preferred.

Purpose of the role

MSA is a highly multi-disciplinary group started in 2019 to tackle difficult mail delivery, spam, abuse, and account security problems that impact the Proton ecosystem. We built sophisticated systems from scratch that combine human intelligence and machine learning to make tens of millions of realtime or asynchronous decisions each day. Our custom systems have reduced spam filter misclassifications by over 60%, blocked millions of abusive bulk signups, protected hundreds of thousands of users from account compromise by attackers, and mitigated hundreds of DDoS attacks. In the last few years, we have also been building complicated new products, including launching Wallet, Lumo AI, and Meet. We are the main group at Proton working on AI. In order to move fast with limited resources, we are organized into autonomous teams responsible for the whole system, with expertise across infrastructure, data storage, backend, web and mobile apps, machine learning, security and operational excellence. We are looking for humble, mission-driven, systems-thinking people who want to make a big impact in a startup environment.

What you will do

MSA builds and operates many services responsible for different domains. You will:

• work with other engineers and analysts to design, build, and operate these systems
• work on special user-facing features involving frontend and backend software development
• You will have the opportunity to play Product or Project Managers roles and lead the whole planning and development process
• be responsible for the operational excellence of the systems/features and their interaction with other systems
• You may work on MSA's custom systems written in Python or on the main Proton API written in PHP or on Proton Web apps written in React or even on native iOS and Android mobile apps

We're looking to hire for our Data side of our AI team at Speechify. This role is responsible for all aspects of data collection to support our model training operations. • Be scrappy to find new sources of audio data and bring it into our ingestion pipeline

Required:

• 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code.

The Team:

As a Frontend Engineer on the Inbox team, you will play a crucial role in developing Proton's most vital services, including Mail and Calendar. We expect you to be customer-centric, continuously learning, passionate about technology and usability. You are an adept at turning technical complexities into seamless user experiences. Effective teamwork, collaboration with Product, Design, APIs, and your team, and data-driven decision-making are essential aspects of this role.

Key responsibilities:

• Take end-to-end ownership of mobile application development projects: you'll be comfortable with scoping projects, walking back from deadlines and being able to discern the important from the superfluous
• Foster a culture of innovation by exploring new technologies, methodologies and approaches to web development – we tackle complex engineering challenges with creativity and ingenuity
• Design for scalability, considering factors such as data caching, network bandwidth and server load
• Implement solutions to monitor and alert the team regarding the state of Inbox web clients

Purpose of the role:

We are looking for a MLOps / Infrastructure Engineer to join the MSA (Mail Security & Anti-abuse) team and support the operation and evolution of our machine learning anti-abuse systems.
MSA is a multidisciplinary group created in 2019 to tackle complex problems in mail delivery, spam prevention, abuse detection, and account security across the Proton ecosystem. Our systems combine human expertise and machine learning to make tens of millions of decisions daily, protecting users from spam, fraud, account compromise, and large-scale attacks.

The Team

Our business unit, Inbox, is a cross-functional team of about 60 engineers, product managers, designers and data analysts driving the development of Proton Mail, the company’s flagship product, and Proton Calendar. Our mission is to create an end-to-end encrypted solution with a better user experience than any other productivity products on the market. The Inbox Desktop team is responsible for developing desktop clients of Inbox, specifically the Proton Mail Desktop App, Proton Mail Bridge, and the Export tool. We are in the process of rebuilding our client applications on a new, innovative technology stack centred around cross-platform Rust code. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take the technical ownership of the Proton Mail Desktop App on Windows and Linux platforms.

Currently, we use many languages and frameworks in the team like Golang, C++, Qt, JS, TypeScript, React, or Electron. We use standard tools for communication and work organization (Git, GitLab, GitHub, GitLab CI, Jira, Confluence). Our backend runs on premise in Proton’s data centers, and all our client-code is open source and GPL3.

Purpose of the role

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Inbox Desktop team, you will play a crucial role in driving the development of one of Proton's most vital desktop offerings, the Proton Mail Desktop App. We expect you to be customer-centric, continuous learner, passionate about technology and usability. About the role:

The MSA team (Mail Delivery, Spam, and Anti-Abuse) is a multidisciplinary group founded in 2019 to solve complex security challenges across the Proton ecosystem. We build sophisticated systems from scratch that combine human intelligence and machine learning to make tens of millions of real-time or asynchronous decisions daily. Our focus areas include:

Over the past few years, our custom systems have:

• Reduced spam filter misclassifications by over 70%

Purpose of the role: 

As the Engineering Manager for Proton VPN, for the iOS and MacOS team, you lead a team of engineers dedicated to fostering continuous innovation in our applications. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Proton. Your primary objective is to raise the quality and reliability of our Apple platform products, while ensure Proton VPN keep being extended with new and critical functionalities.

Responsibilities include: 

• Raise and maintain a high engineering bar for iOS and macOS VPN products by diagnosing quality issues, implementing clear processes, and ensuring delivery of robust, reliable features.
• Enhance team efficiency by balancing speed, quality, and developer experience through streamlined processes and structured ways of working.
• Collaborate closely with Product to address quality concerns while delivering on the roadmap.
• Strategically analyse engineering challenges and guide the team in breaking them down into manageable, iterative solutions—adjusting scopes to meet goals quickly without sacrificing quality.
• Ensure transparent communication of priorities, context, and technical decisions within the team and across stakeholders.
• Foster team growth through personalised 1-on-1s, performance evaluations, and career development plans.
• Oversee cross-team projects with R&D, Backend, Infrastructure, QA, and Product to ensure seamless coordination and execution
• Influence and collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives and Proton’s security mission.

Job requirements:

• Experience managing Mobile teams, delivering Mobile products and navigating complex cross-team efforts.
• Proven track record of improving product quality and implementing processes in a fast-moving environment.
• Experience leading or contributing to release processes and delivering software at scale, ideally in networking, VPN, or other performance-critical domains.
• Strong understanding of mobile-specific engineering challenges and the ability to go deep technically when diagnosing issues.
• Skilled in project management—able to keep initiatives moving, align stakeholders, and ship high-quality releases.
• Clear, concise, and impactful communication skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the full application lifecycle, from code reviews and CI/CD to deployment and post-release troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with low-level networking concepts (VPN protocols, DNS, TCP/IP) is beneficial.
• Passion for creating an environment where teams are motivated, collaborative, and focused on delivering exceptional user experiences.
