We are seeking a SoC Validation Engineer.

The Silicon Team in Edinburgh is a small, highly focused group responsible for developing high‑value silicon that is core to AST’s mission of “Connecting the unconnected”—delivering the world’s first space‑based mobile broadband network.

The team works collaboratively to define and build next‑generation silicon, exploring advanced silicon technologies to continuously improve performance, capability, and efficiency. This is a hands‑on environment where silicon decisions directly impact AST’s ability to deliver a global communications network from space.

In this role, the Validation Engineer will be responsible for defining, executing, and reporting on the validation of complex integrated circuit devices, working closely with System Definition, IC Design, and Software teams. This role spans pre‑silicon validation using FPGA prototypes through to post‑silicon bring‑up and system‑level validation, ensuring devices meet performance, functionality, and system integration requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with System Definition and IC Design teams to ensure devices are specified with optimal ball placement and external component selection to meet PCB technology and overall system requirements.
• Define and specify laboratory equipment and infrastructure required to effectively test and validate devices.
• Perform validation bring‑up using FPGA prototypes prior to IC manufacture.
• Define comprehensive validation test plans to validate IC performance either standalone or within a wider system, covering hardware, software, and RF aspects.
• Execute manual bring‑up and planned validation test activities, including fault isolation and debug.
• Define, develop, and implement regression and automation procedures to improve validation efficiency and coverage.
• Produce clear and concise validation reports for technical review and sign‑off.
• Support board‑level bring‑up and debug activities in collaboration with hardware and software teams.

Qualifications

Education:

BEng in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands‑on experience using laboratory equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and similar instrumentation.
• Practical experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Perl, C, or C++.
• Strong verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
• Experience working effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with DSP, wireless communication systems, and SerDes technologies.
• Experience validating complex System‑on‑Chip (SoC) designs involving embedded software.
• Background knowledge of RF fundamentals, antennas, and communication theory.

You will work alongside architecture, verification, and system teams—both internal and external—to deliver robust, high‑performance ASIC and SoC designs from concept through tape‑out.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create high‑quality micro‑architecture specifications and RTL code.
• Contribute to SoC integration and subsystem development.

Qualifications

Education:

Experience:

• Deep knowledge of hardware and digital design fundamentals.

• Experience with SoC integration.
• Prior experience on complex RTL designs such as high‑speed I/O, CPUs, accelerators, or complex network‑on‑chip implementations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Experience on large SoC / ASIC designs.
• RF knowledge is a strong plus.
• Understanding of digital signal processing.
• Experience with MATLAB is a plus.
• Background in communications or mobile silicon system design.

Technical Skills: 

• Strong backend experience with Java.
• A desire to learn and experiment with other technologies and platforms, including mobile and web.
• Experience with AWS as well as understanding DevOps concepts such as IaC (we use Terraform).
• Experience working on critical systems (ideally high volume and at scale).

This work spans the full RFQ/quote lifecycle (request → quote → accept → outcome) in low-latency, event-driven services. The team you will join works with quantitative analysts and trading/risk stakeholders to implement and run market making strategies, while proactively identifying opportunities for technical innovation within the Risk and Trading organization. Our stakeholders are the people who establish prices and manage risk for the #1 sports book in America!

As a Senior Software Engineer within FanDuel’s Market Making Technology team, you will be an essential part of a cross functional agile team that directly impacts our business. You will work collaboratively with a team to implement creative, high-quality solutions, scope effort and timelines, and balance priorities of our stakeholders and engineering needs. This team will work closely to deliver exceptionally high-quality software, while taking pride and ownership in testing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining that software. Our engineers own every part of the software delivery lifecycle.  

You will work directly with quantitative analysts at FanDuel to improve our market making capabilities. You will be a domain expert on strategy implementation (quoting/decision logic) and how that fits into the larger Risk and Trading landscape — including real-time risk controls, execution outcomes, and performance measurement. You will help ensure robust guardrails (limits, throttles, kill switch) and high-fidelity decision logging so strategies can be debugged, replayed, and improved (e.g., quote ratio, win rate, expected vs realized margin). The Role 

We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Manager who is, first and foremost, a people leader.

In this role, your primary responsibility is the health, performance, and career growth of your engineering team. While you must possess a solid technical background to understand the challenges your team faces, your day-to-day focus will not be hands-on technical work. Instead, you will use your experience to remove blockers, guide decision-making, and ensure your engineers have the environment they need to succeed.

You will act as the bridge between technical execution and business strategy, team budget management, defining roadmaps, and ensuring operational excellence across a complex hybrid (predominantly on-prem and some cloud) estate.

The Team You Will Lead 

You will lead the Infrastructure Solutions team within the wider Technical Operations department. Your engineers are responsible for building the environment, delivering projects as requested by Engineering and Product, and ensuring we remain available, scalable, and secure. They are not responsible for the BAU function of the platforms that is managed by another team within Technical Operations. The Infrastructure Solutions team takes a concept or idea and makes that into a reality within the boundaries and constraints of our platforms. 

You will be managing a team of engineers who individually possess experience in:

• On-Premise Linux systems, Container solutions, Debian packaging, Ansible, data streaming and queuing technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Advanced database management knowledge (MySQL, Postgres) in replicated environments.
• Physical Network management, with an on-prem estate that is Juniper focused. 
• Cloud environments: GCP and AWS
• Platform engineer focused on building, maintaining and supporting an Internal Developer Platform (CI/CD)

The Operational Reality

It is important to be transparent about the environment you are joining. We operate at high velocity with a broad and complex technology estate. However, we are a lean team, not a giant corporation with endless resources.

As the Senior Infrastructure Manager, You Will:

People Leadership & Talent Development

• Team Management
• Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of infrastructure engineers. Conduct weekly 1-2-1s, manage performance reviews, and handle all aspects of people management.

• Proactively identify operational risks and form contingency plans immediately to ensure business continuity.

• Ability to define, maintain, and cascade operational procedures (SOPs) and ITIL standards.
• Prioritisation
• Shield your team from noise by effectively prioritising workloads (Changes, Problems, and Projects) and managing stakeholder expectations.

Technical Support & Oversight

• Performance Optimisation
• Measure and optimise system performance with a focus on improving reliability and time-to-market. You will drive innovation to get ahead of internal customer needs rather than just reacting to them.
• Visual Documentation
• Ensure the team produces detailed system design documentation, specifically enforcing the inclusion of visual representations to support understanding. Ability to technologically assess it as a technical editor.
• Hybrid Estate Management
• Ability to oversee the management of both On-Premise and Cloud (GCP/AWS), ensuring high availability across all environments.
• Unblocking Issues
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical issues. Your goal is not to fix the issue yourself, but to coordinate the right resources and provide air cover.

General Duties

On-Call DutiesWillingness to participate in the Management On-Call Rotation to support the department and the business (Current frequency: Once every three weeks).Ad-HocCarry out other strategic or technical duties required to support the Director/VP of Technical Operations.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Leadership & Management Competencies

• Proven Management Experience
• Significant experience leading a technical team, with a specific focus on the people management aspect (performance reviews, career growth etc).
• Project Management
• Strong project management experience with the ability to delegate effectively to meet tight deadlines. You must be able to multitask and maintain focus in a high-priority environment.
• Communication
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to liaise effectively with management and other business areas. Engagement may also include interactions with senior technical engineers/leaders within other teams and C-Team members. 
• Goal Oriented
• You must be highly goal-oriented with strict attention to detail, capable of prioritising workload and demand to ensure targets are met.
• ITIL Application / Lean Six Sigma
• Deep knowledge of and experience with ITIL practices, with the ability to apply them to improve team workflows. Demonstrated ability to apply Lean Six Sigma concepts.

Technical Environment & Team Capabilities

Focusing on the technical skills that your engineers possess, it would be ideal if you had a decent working knowledge of each of the areas. Hands-on expertise in every area is not required, but the ability to hold and facilitate discussions, know when to push or hold back and when to ask poignant questions will help you effectively mentor the team and guide architectural decisions. 

For reference from above these areas are: on-prem and AWS/GCP solutions; system design from network to application level; resilient database availability strategies; automation and configuration management via Ansible, Docker and CI/CD; programming awareness in Python; Linux administration.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

The following skills or experiences are advantageous but not strictly required. They would be utilised for facilitating tasks rather than for direct, hands-on implementation.

• Innovation & Debt Management
• A keen interest in new technologies and innovation, specifically supporting development teams in the refactoring of technical debt.
• Advanced Containerization
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and container ecosystems.
• Observability
• Experience with monitoring systems (e.g., Zabbix, Grafana) and logging stacks (Elasticsearch, Kibana).
• Data Streaming
• Experience with data streaming and queuing technologies, specifically Apache Kafka and Druid.
• Web & Storage
• Knowledge of Nginx (or other web server technologies) and storage technologies like Gluster.
• Tooling
• Proficiency with JIRA and Confluence for project tracking and documentation.
• Version Control
• strong understanding of Git and version control best practices.

Your Mission 💪

What you’ll be doing 🎯

• As a 2nd line engineer, you will assist 1^st line support engineers through both proactive and reactive escalations
• Update tickets in an organised, efficient and detailed manner and logging time for all work performed
• Work within defined service level agreements (SLA) for different customers to ensure SLAs are met within thresholds
• Own and managing tickets for Incidents, Problems, Changes and others for Managed customers and non-managed devices
• Escalate tickets to 3^rd line where appropriate following a defined escalation process
• Maintain documentation of Managed Service Customers
• Required to act as Technical Lead for defined Managed Service Customers

What experience we think you’ll need 🚀

As a 2nd line NOC Engineer you will need to be outgoing, highly organised, disciplined and adaptable with excellent communication skills. You must be willing to get stuck in with day-to-day operational tasks and run multiple work streams. Including these people skills, your technical requirements will also include:

• Cisco Routers and Switching configuration and troubleshooting (CCNP Certification or suitable industry experience)
• Cisco Security configuration and troubleshooting (CCNA Security or suitable industry experience)
• Cisco Wireless configuration and troubleshooting (Experience in Cisco and Meraki)
• ITIL/Change management or similar process experience
• Desirable - Configuration and troubleshooting experience of other Cisco related Security products, specifically ASA, ISE, FirePower and Umbrella
• Desirable - Configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco Data Centre products
• Desirable - Palo Alto Security configuration and troubleshooting – (PCNSE Certification or suitable industry experience)
