The Team + The Role

Pendo’s Customer Engineering team is the technical backbone of the pre- and post-sales customer motion. The team brings together work that has historically sat across Customer Success, Technical Account Management, and Solutions Engineering into one full-lifecycle technical owner. Customer Engineering helps customers connect technical execution to business outcomes and realize the value of their investment in Pendo.

As a Senior Customer Engineer, you own strategic and complex Enterprise accounts across acquisition, implementation, adoption, expansion, and escalation. You lead technical strategy for complex deployments, resolve ambiguous customer challenges, and partner closely with account teams to drive retention, expansion, and customer value. Your impact extends beyond your own accounts through playbooks, coaching, repeatable fixes, and workflow improvements that raise the capability of the broader Customer Engineering team.

This is a remote role supporting a West Coast territory. 

What this looks like day-to-day

• New customer acquisition and selling: Partner with Account Directors on pre-sales motions for new customer acquisition, product expansion, and expansion across lines of business. You identify customer pain, craft and deliver tailored demos, and lead technical evaluations through requirements gathering, success criteria, installation guidance, and hands-on workshops.
• Complex implementations and value realization: Lead onboarding for strategic customers, including planning, implementation, integrations, and training. You build customer-specific implementation playbooks, guide complex deployments with executive visibility, and ensure customers realize value during onboarding and over time.
• Adoption, expansion, and growth: Identify opportunities to expand adoption across underutilized features, untapped products, and new lines of business. When adoption stalls, you diagnose root causes, design a path forward, and connect technical work to measurable business outcomes.
• Technical escalation: Serve as an escalation point for complex technical challenges raised by other Customer Engineers. You resolve ambiguous problems with multiple variables and tradeoffs, involving Product or Engineering only when truly needed.
• Team capability building: Build playbooks, document repeatable fixes, coach peers, and improve how Customer Engineering work gets done across the team. You use AI tools to accelerate content creation, surface patterns across accounts, and share practical workflow findings with the broader team.
• Early account impact: Assess account health, risks, stakeholder relationships, and the highest-priority problems to solve within your portfolio. You establish trust with Account Directors and customer stakeholders, then independently lead complex customer interactions that move accounts forward.
• Quarterly business outcomes: Drive measurable improvement in customer health, retention, expansion, and technical resolution across strategic accounts. You contribute reusable frameworks, playbooks, or processes that other Customer Engineers use and become a trusted advisor to Account Directors on account health and technical strategy.

Must-haves

• 5 to 8 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Technical Account Management, Customer Engineering, implementation, professional services, or solutions architecture.
• Deep hands-on experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and REST APIs, with the ability to architect and troubleshoot complex front-end implementations.
• Proven experience managing strategic Enterprise accounts with executive-level stakeholders, competing priorities, and complex technical or business requirements.

Compensation: The expected On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for this role is $193,393 - $241,742, with a 70/30 base-to-variable compensation split.

The Customer Insights & Adoption (CIA) team is hiring a senior architect to lead internal technical enablement across Contentful’s product portfolio and recommended ways of building. You will serve as a deeply technical, highly cross-functional subject matter expert who empowers internal teams, customers, and partners to adopt Contentful with confidence and consistency. About the Opportunity

We are hiring a Personalization Solution Architect with deep domain expertise in personalization and experimentation to join Contentful’s Professional Services team. This role is designed for a practitioner who has built, operated, and scaled personalization programs in production, and who also brings the hands-on technical skills required to implement those programs in modern, composable architectures.

This is not a generalist Solution Architect role with light exposure to personalization. Success in this role requires strong opinions and real-world experience across audience strategy, decisioning, experimentation, and measurement—paired with the ability to design and deliver high-quality technical implementations using Contentful Personalization.

About the Opportunity

Contentful is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Ecosystem product line with a primary focus on Marketplace. In this role, you will help build, maintain, and grow the systems, apps, and workflows that expand what customers can do with Contentful.

You will work across the Marketplace surface area and adjacent ecosystem tooling, helping us deliver high-impact apps, improve the contribution and review pipeline, and scale the ways internal and external developers build on top of Contentful. Our Scalability team as a Senior Scalability Engineer focused on observability platform development and engineering productivity. In this role, you will define, own, and build Judi Health's organization-wide observability strategy, tooling, and platform products. Beyond maintaining infrastructure, you'll architect and develop a custom observability platform that gives engineering teams powerful, fast, and cost-effective visibility into every layer of our infrastructure—from application logs and metrics to distributed traces. You'll build production-grade internal products using React/TypeScript frontends with Python and Rust backends, creating tools that fundamentally improve how engineers at Judi Health debug, monitor, and optimize their systems. Working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams, your work will be foundational to platform stability, performance optimization, and developer productivity across our rapidly growing healthcare platform. 

Position Responsibilities: 

In this role, you'll own the observability infrastructure that powers our engineering organization. You will:  

• Architect observability platform: Design, implement, and maintain the LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir/Prometheus) as the primary observability platform across all engineering teams, making architectural decisions that balance cost, performance, and developer experience.
• Build internal observability products: Design and develop production-grade internal platform products with React/TypeScript frontends and Python/Rust backends that provide engineers with powerful log search, metrics visualization, and trace analysis capabilities.
• Develop custom log indexing systems: Architect and build high-performance log indexing solutions using Rust that process logs and provide sub-second search across billions of log lines at a fraction of the cost.
• Integrate SQL analytics for logs: Design and implement solutions leveraging AWS Athena or similar SQL query engines (DuckDB, ClickHouse) for ad-hoc log analysis and historical queries, enabling engineers to run complex SQL queries over S3-based log data for deep investigations and trend analysis. 
• Create advanced query interfaces: Build sophisticated web interfaces that allow engineers to query logs, metrics, and traces with features like saved queries, query templates, correlation analysis, and pattern detection, supporting both full-text search and SQL-based analytics. 
• Balance cloud-native and open-source: Architect solutions that thoughtfully leverage both AWS-managed services (CloudWatch, Athena, Kinesis) and open-source tooling (LGTM stack, Quickwit) to optimize for cost, performance, and operational flexibility based on use case requirements. 
• Integrate AWS observability: Design seamless integration between AWS CloudWatch Logs/Metrics and our custom observability platform, providing unified visibility across managed and self-hosted infrastructure. 
• Build intelligent alerting: Develop smart dashboards, monitors, and alerting systems that reduce noise, detect anomalies, and help teams respond to incidents quickly.

This role would play a crucial role in shaping and implementing engineering best practices and ensuring the successful delivery of complex software projects. What would you be doing?

• Build AI-enabled applications leveraging LangChain and LLMs to deliver meaningful, production-ready outcomes for clients.
• Deep expertise in LangChain, LangGraph and LangSmith
• Lead teams through end-to-end delivery across the stack, from backend services to modern web UIs.
• Pair program daily with teammates and clients to share knowledge, improve code quality, and grow together.
• Practice TDD and continuous refactoring to ensure code is reliable, maintainable, and understandable.
• Guide architecture decisions to support scalability, observability, and performance.
• Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and stakeholders to continuously deliver valuable software.
• Coach developers on the team through pairing, mentoring, and modeling healthy engineering culture.
• Influence technical direction beyond the team, working across client orgs and Focused’s internal practices to share lessons, shape approaches, and raise the collective bar.
• Stay curious through experimenting with new patterns in the GenAI space, share what works (and what doesn’t), and help evolve how we build AI-powered software.

• You’ve worked with LangChain (or similar agentic frameworks), and understand how to architect AI-native systems responsibly and effectively.
• You have experience leading engineering teams and feel confident mentoring and supporting other developers.
• You believe that code quality matters, and that TDD and pairing help build better systems and stronger teams.
• You’ve worked across multiple languages or frameworks (e.g., Python, Node, Java, React, Next.js) and are pragmatic about tool selection.
• You’re excited about what’s happening in the AI space but stay focused on delivering value.
• You have experience navigating complex organizations, building bridges across functions, and helping teams adopt modern development practices.
• You’re as comfortable in the code as you are in a client meeting and can translate technical risks and wins into language anyone can understand.
• You love to share what you’re learning and make the team around you better.

If you had worked at Focused over the last 3 months you may have:

• Paired with a teammate to build a document Q&A system using LangChain and OpenAI APIs
• Helped design an architecture that integrates LLM agents into a legacy enterprise workflow
• Refactored a flaky test suite to support continuous delivery with confidence
• Mentored a junior dev through their first pairing and TDD session
• Built and deployed a full stack GenAI MVP with a React frontend and FastAPI backend
• Facilitated an architecture spike to evaluate vector database options for semantic search
• Contributed a new section to our internal AI playbook

What to know before you apply: 

• This role will require being in the Chicago office three days per week and up to 20% travel within the United States.
• Focused is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of the employment Visa process at this time.
• The Chicago base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $250,000.
