We are seeking a Data Engineer to help design, build, and scale modern data solutions that power analytics, operational reporting, and business decision-making across the company. You will work closely with our data, analytics, and business teams to develop high-quality data pipelines, models, and integrations that deliver clean, reliable, and actionable data.

You will join a small, cross-geography engineering team operating with a product mindset - delivering iterative value, partnering closely with business and analytics stakeholders, and owning both build and run responsibilities of a mission-critical platform.

• Collaborate with cross-functional partners on governance, documentation, definitions, and data stewardship.
• Implement CI/CD practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to automate deployment, testing, and environment management.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and operational on-call rotations as needed.

What do you need to be successful?

Required

• 3–6+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a similar technical role.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow, or similar frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python or another scripting language.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data structures, and modern data architecture patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows, version control (Git), and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform a plus).
• Familiarity with data governance, quality, lineage, and cataloging concepts and tools.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business partners in a cross-functional environment.
• Excellent communication skills and a product-focused mindset.

Preferred

• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Datadog).
• Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Looker.
• Background in distributed systems, APIs, or event-based architectures.
• Exposure to data security, compliance, or privacy frameworks.
• Experience utilizing AI for development.

Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, the Senior Analytics Engineer (Finance) will be the dedicated data partner for Checkr's Finance organization, owning the models, pipelines, and governance that power how we measure and forecast the business. You will build and maintain the trusted data layer for ledgers, revenue reconciliation, COGS and margin analysis, and forecast model inputs — turning raw ERP and operational data into decision-ready assets. You'll work hand-in-hand with FP&A, Accounting, and Finance leadership, while helping shape one of Checkr's most exciting data platforms alongside a team that's actively building with the latest AI tooling.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data models and pipelines that support revenue reconciliation, ledger integrity, COGS and margin analysis, and forecast model inputs
• Partner directly with FP&A, Accounting, and broader Finance stakeholders to translate business questions into well-governed, reusable data products in Looker and Omni
• Own the data contracts and quality checks for finance-critical datasets, establishing governance standards that make numbers audit-ready and trusted across the company
• Model data out of ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, and similar) and integrate it with operational sources to produce a unified financial view of the business
• Drive adoption of AI-powered workflows and tooling within the analytics engineering stack to accelerate pipeline development, documentation, and stakeholder self-service
• Partner with Data Engineering peers to evolve Checkr's modern data platform, championing best practices in testing, documentation, and lineage

What you bring

• 5+ years of experience in an Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Analyst role, ideally with meaningful exposure to Finance or Accounting stakeholders
• Expert SQL and strong experience building production-grade data models and pipelines
• Hands-on experience modeling data from ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or similar, and strong familiarity with financial concepts like GL, revenue recognition, COGS, and margin
• Experience with BI and modeling tools such as Looker and Omni, and the ability to design semantic layers that scale with stakeholder needs
• Excellent communication skills and a track record of translating ambiguous Finance requirements into technical solutions
• Experience with dbt and Snowflake, and enthusiasm for working with AI-powered development tools, is a strong plus

Position Summary 

Peak Energy is accelerating the transition to clean, reliable energy through advanced energy storage systems. We are seeking a Financial Analyst to join our Finance team as one of its earliest hires and help build the financial infrastructure that will carry Peak from early revenue through gigawatt-scale production. This role spans FP&A, strategic finance, and finance technology — you’ll assist with budget-to-actual reporting, support executive decision-making with models and analysis, and contribute to the AI and automation roadmap for Peak’s finance function. 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, motivated, and eager to learn. Experience matters less than attitude - we’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to understand how a business works, isn’t afraid to dig into the details, and brings consistent effort and follow-through every day. As one of the first finance hires, you’ll learn how a startup builds its financial operating cadence from the ground up, with the opportunity to grow into ownership of key processes over time. The key to success in this role is willingness to work hard, demonstrate curiosity, and an appetite for growth. This role has significant growth opportunities. 

Key Responsibilities 

FP&A & Budget Management 

• Assist in building and maintaining Peak’s budget-to-actual tracking, reporting cadences, and variance analysis — learning to partner with department heads across Engineering, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Operations to translate operational plans into financial models. 

• Help prepare monthly financial packages and support the month-end close process, learning to write clear, actionable commentary that explains the “so what” behind the numbers. 

Strategic Finance 

• Support fundraising, investor reporting, and board materials; assist in building financial models for new projects, customer deals, and manufacturing scale-up scenarios. 

• Learn to analyze and improve unit economics, should-cost models, and cash flow projections that support executive decision-making on pricing, procurement, and capital allocation. 

Finance Technology & AI Roadmap 

• Contribute to defining the AI and automation roadmap for Peak’s finance function — suggesting where intelligent tooling can replace manual work in reporting, reconciliation, forecasting, and spend tracking. 

• Support the evaluation and implementation of finance software (ERP, FP&A platforms, expense management) and help build internal tools and workflows as the company scales from startup-stage systems to enterprise-grade infrastructure. 

Cross-Functional Partnership 

• Support operational teams as a finance resource — helping track project-level spend, assisting with purchase order workflows, and learning compliance requirements including 48E ITC tax credit tracking and investor deliverables. 

• Contribute to ad hoc strategic projects across the business; this is a startup, and the best ideas often come from the newest voices. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. 

• 0–2 years of experience in finance, FP&A, accounting, consulting, or a related analytical role. Recent graduates with strong internship experience are encouraged to apply. 

• Comfortable in Excel/PowerPoint with a willingness to go deep — building models, writing formulas, and learning data tools over time. 

• Strong communicator who can distill financial information into clear takeaways for non-finance stakeholders. 

• Teachable and coachable — someone who takes feedback well, asks good questions, and is energized by learning new things in a fast-moving environment. 

• Intellectually curious about how AI and technology can transform finance — the kind of person already experimenting with tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, or Claude. 

• Bonus: SQL, BI tools (Tableau/Power BI/Looker), ERP systems, or exposure to hardware/energy/manufacturing environments.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
