The Processing team builds and maintains the real-time interfaces between Lithic and external payment networks. Every card authorization, clearing message, and settlement file flows through systems this team owns. The team manages both online and batch transaction flows across Mastercard, Visa, and Amex, along with transaction enrichment, disputes processing, and network compliance. The systems we maintain have strict latency and uptime requirements, because they sit on the critical path for every card transaction. The team also manages the physical network peering with card network partners, so infrastructure and networking expertise are important. The team primarily uses Java, Python, and Kotlin on AWS.
The annual Canadian salary range for this role is CA$232,000 - $333,000 plus equity. The Role
By applying your Mobile experience, and software development skills, you will build high quality and intuitive experiences for customer-facing and business-facing apps. We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Diagnostics team as a backend-leaning generalist. You will lead end-to-end design across our stack — ingest from millions of game clients, pipelines built on OpenTelemetry, a ClickHouse-based data lake, and the dashboard surfaces customers depend on — and you will partner closely with the Data, IAP, Profiler, and DevX teams on the integrations that make Diagnostics useful. Our stack is Go (primary), Kotlin, TypeScript, and C#. This is a small, autonomous team where senior judgment compounds: you will shape how the team designs, reviews, and ships, including how we work with agentic AI tools as a core part of the craft.

Engineers on this team construct our rules-based calculating engine for processing sales commissions. This might sound simple if you have never been exposed to sales comp plans, it is not! Reporting to the Manager of Data Platform, you will play a critical role in the evolution of our Spark based data platform. You'll lead development efforts for our complex, data-rich platform features while being an example to the team of code quality and thoughtful software design. You will be working on the most challenging code at Forma.

You’ll work alongside other staff, senior, and early-career engineers to define, evolve, and scale the systems that power enterprise-grade product workflows. You will play a critical role in the continued evolution of our application stack. You will lead development efforts for complex backend capabilities and serve as a technical example in system design, code quality, and long-term maintainability. You’ll operate at the intersection of data modelling, business logic, and enterprise scale reliability.
As a Staff Engineer, you are expected to operate with a high degree of ownership and trust. This includes proactively identifying architectural risks, surfacing edge cases or constraints others may not see, and advocating for improvements that strengthen the long-term integrity of the system. This role sits horizontally across Experiences, not inside one team. The job is making sure what we build across Maps, Realtime, Feed, Notifications, and History actually fits together into something coherent. Right now that's not always the case and it's costing us.
The core product journeys are the focus: where is my family, how do we stay connected, where have we been. These are what 91M monthly users interact with every time they open the app. The technical and experiential decisions made here have real reach.
We need someone who operates as an owner. That means shaping what gets built, not waiting for a spec. Influencing product and design direction, writing the technical framing for how we sequence work, seeing how the pieces add up (or don't). There's a real gap today between individual features shipping and a coherent experience coming out the other side. Closing that is a big part of this job.
Working in an AI-native way is a real expectation here, not a nice-to-have. We're building toward a model where AI owns the development loop and engineers direct and are accountable for what ships. We expect this person to already work that way — directing agents through the full development cycle, writing clear problem statements AI can run against, holding the quality bar on output. If you're using AI to go faster at the same tasks you'd do anyway, that's not the shift we're making.
The role is hands-on. Deep reviews, prototyping, unblocking things stuck in the middle. The leverage isn't in your direct output though — it's in how much the teams around you move because you're involved.

Our team sits within Developer Productivity, whose mission is to make software development at Affirm simpler and faster across the company. The broader org owns much of the path between a developer’s laptop and production, including developer environments, test automation, code standards, CI/CD, and release engineering, all in service of helping engineers ship code quickly, safely, and with confidence. The Continuous Delivery team’s charter is centered on enabling engineering teams to release independently through strong automation, standard patterns, predictable rollouts, resilient recovery mechanisms, and less manual toil.
This role is uniquely positioned to help solve one of Affirm’s most important engineering challenges: scaling developer productivity in an era where the software development lifecycle is increasingly AI-enhanced. The team builds and improves the platforms, workflows, and guardrails that help engineers move from idea to production faster, with better safety, consistency, and developer experience. We value engineers who listen closely, invite feedback, and work well across organizational boundaries, while also holding a high bar for ownership, technical judgment, and follow-through. What You'll Do
· You will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers on your team through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring that everyone is supported throughout delivery.
· You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
· You will proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
· You will support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
· You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks.
· You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.
What We Look For
· You have 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
· You have a track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
· You have experience building or evolving CI/CD, deployment, or release automation systems that reduce manual toil and improve rollout predictability, recovery, and auditability across many engineering teams.
· You are comfortable working on shared developer infrastructure and defining clear platform interfaces, templates, or guardrails that make it easier for product teams to adopt standard deployment patterns with confidence.
· You have experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design. You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
· You are proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, and have developed a suite of tools and practices that enable you and your team to do so safely.
· Your experience demonstrates that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders.
· You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
· This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

The Consumer Authentication Engineering team is responsible for building and operating secure, seamless account creation and access experiences for Affirm customers. The team’s mission is to empower consumers with frictionless authentication while maintaining strong protections against fraud and account takeover (ATO). This includes ownership of account creation, authentication, recovery, and account management flows, balancing user experience with security, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
