Affirm is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to take on a critical role in defining and leading web platform and infrastructure across all web engineering.
You'll shape best practices, lead architectural choices, and drive the successful delivery of critical initiatives. This role requires a high level of technical ability and leadership, and experience with advancing and improving design systems, application architecture, CI/CD, observability, performance, and AI tooling for complex, mission critical web applications.
You’ll help mentor and grow a talented team of senior engineers, and build relationships with architects and product teams across Affirm.

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.
Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). In addition, the employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).

For high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle), the expected salary range for this position is $143,000 USD - $177,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
For all other US locations, the expected salary range for this position is $125,000 USD - $165,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, the pay range is localized according to employee work location by a factor of between 83% and 100% of range. The Okta Digital Credentials Team
The Okta Digital Credentials team is building the future of digital identity. The way we prove our identity online is undergoing a fundamental shift, moving from scanning physical documents to using secure, portable digital credentials. The Staff Software Engineer Opportunity
As a Staff Backend Engineer on the Okta Digital Credentials (ODC) team, you will define the technical direction of a new VDC identity ecosystem and set the standard for how we build it.
This role demands deep technical expertise in backend architecture and the ability to influence decisions across the team and adjacent engineering groups. You will thrive in a fast-paced, zero-to-one environment, cutting through ambiguity to drive product-market fit.
A distinctive part of this role is setting the team's standard for AI-native engineering. This isn't about using autocomplete faster - it's about rethinking how a small, senior team ships production-quality code at pace. In practice, that means using AI tools for architectural reasoning and design review, generating and validating test coverage, accelerating code review cycles, and helping engineers build judgment about when AI output is trustworthy and when it isn't.
