About the role
Roku pioneered streaming to the TV and continues to innovate and lead the industry. While we are well-positioned to help shape the future of television and streaming media around the world, continued success depends on experienced embedded software engineers like you joining the Roku OS Streaming Media team.
In this role, you will be part of the team that's responsible for Roku’s Media engine, implementing new features and designing algorithms that deliver flawless video playback to all our users. This includes optimizing network interactions between our players and CDN, implementing adaptive streaming stacks, integrating DRM systems, and developing tools to monitor performance.
The features and performance improvements you implement directly impact millions of users every day. This is a great role for an experienced professional with innovative ideas for complex problems and the ability to translate them into ultra-reliable software.
For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $197,900 - $270,000 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.
What you'll be doing
- Extend Roku's player feature set to support new business opportunities and the latest multimedia specifications
- Continuously improve playback on Roku devices, and deliver our users a world-class player experience under all operating conditions
- Work independently and in small groups to deliver new features and functionality on-time
- Demonstrate excellence in C++ & Python development and deliver high-performance, ultra-reliable software
- Demonstrate impeccable software design skills, make extensive changes to an existing C++ code base that are modular and easy to maintain
- Demonstrate the ability to dig deep to find solutions to tough problems affecting our users
We're excited if you have
- 2 – 5 years of relevant software development experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s in computer science or equivalent engineering experience.
- Extensive programming experience with C++ and Python
- Proven track record of success with embedded system development projects and Linux operating systems.
- Deep understanding of multi-threaded development and concurrency management.
- Experience in API design and developing portable code.
- Been able to accurately estimate software tasks and work to schedule.
- Architected, implemented, and tested systems for performance & low resource consumption.
- A good understanding of open source development
- A familiarity with AI/ML and LLM technologies.
- Experience with other consumer electronics OS’es (e.g. Android, FreeRTOS)
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP, DRM technologies like PlayReady, Widevine and streaming protocols such as WebRTC, HLS, and/or DASH is important.
- Experience working with video (H.264, H.265, AV1) & audio (aac, ac3) codecs.

About the role
As a Software Engineer - Telematics at Applied Intuition, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge telematics platforms that enable seamless communication between devices, cloud services, and enterprise systems. You will work on sophisticated backend systems that combine telecommunications and informatics to process, analyze, and manage multi-modal real-time telemetry data. At Applied Intuition, you will:
- Design and develop scalable robust telematics backend systems that process high-volume, real-time telemetry data streams from millions of connected devices using modern microservices architecture
- Architect and implement robust data processing pipelines using technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and stream processing frameworks to handle telematics data ingestion, transformation, and analytics
- Develop cloud-based data storage and analytics solutions leveraging distributed databases, data warehouses, and time-series databases to support real-time monitoring and historical analysis
- Implement device-to-device (D2D) communication systems that enable direct data exchange between connected devices, reducing latency and improving network efficiency through peer-to-peer connectivity

We're looking for someone who has:
- 4+ years of experience in backend software development with strong proficiency in languages like Go, C++, Python, and experience with cloud-native application development
- Experience with cloud platforms and services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes
- Knowledge of data processing and streaming technologies including Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, MQTT, NATS, WebRTC, gRPC, and experience building high-throughput data pipelines
- Experience with database technologies including both SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing solutions, and time-series databases for handling large-scale telemetry data
- Understanding of API design and development with experience in RESTful services, microservices architecture, and API security best practices
- Knowledge of DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and automated testing frameworks
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced cloud development environments with mission-critical, high-availability systems

Compensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.
Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.
Please reference the job posting’s subtitle for where this position will be located. For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this full-time position in the location listed is: $183,000 - $253,000 annually.

Operating a vehicle remotely over cellular networks is challenging and critical. You will be responsible for ensuring that our "eyes on the road" never blink. You’ll tackle deep-stack networking challenges—from bonding multiple LTE carriers to designing custom FEC (Forward Error Correction) algorithms that out-perform standard protocols.
About the Work
- Engineered Connectivity: Architect a network bonding framework to aggregate bandwidth across multiple cellular providers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) to ensure zero-drop connectivity.
- Performance Modeling: Build sophisticated ns-3-like simulations to "stress test" our stack against edge cases like tunnel entries, rural dead zones, and network congestion.
- Optimization: Develop and implement custom congestion control algorithms specifically tuned for high-bitrate, low-latency video streaming.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Hardware and Embedded teams to optimize the network stack directly on our vehicle gateway.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $160,000 and $240,000 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.

About the Role
The ability to monitor and assist our vehicles remotely plays a key role in our business strategy. As a Senior Software Engineer, Networking you will work on our in-house Teleoperations platform. You will work with a diverse team of engineers to build the core communication system as well as the cloud platform to connect vehicles and operators. This position involves broad technical understanding in networking algorithms, bandwidth estimation, rate control, computer networking, and real-time communication systems. The team is expected to deliver reliable solutions and license to 3rd party teleoperation usages.
About the Work
- Build a network interface bonding framework to maximize bandwidth and LTE network utilization
- Build an offline network simulation/emulation framework that can help to iterate and predict online performance
- Test systems in real-world environments, gather feedback and drive innovation
- Work with XFN team for on-road network metric collection
About You
