Staff DevOps Engineer

What you’ll do
- Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of reliable, scalable, performant, and secure production platforms and services.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to build and maintain resilient infrastructure and deployment patterns.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the organisation, promoting strong engineering standards and operational best practice.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support critical services and ensure platform availability.
- Drive standardisation, automation, and documentation to improve consistency, reduce operational overhead, and support knowledge sharing.
- Contribute across the full lifecycle of platform and service delivery, from design and build through to operation and optimisation.
Essential skills and experience
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or software engineering roles.
- Strong Kubernetes experience at scale, with deep understanding of containers and container orchestration.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Strong programming skills in at least one object-oriented language, along with effective scripting and automation capability.
- Strong understanding of security principles and best practices across infrastructure, platforms, and services.
- Significant hands-on experience in at least one major cloud platform, with broad exposure across AWS, GCP, or OCI.
- Strong monitoring, alerting, and observability experience using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar platforms.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and distributed systems.
- Strong Linux and/or Windows systems administration experience.
- Experience with software delivery automation, CI/CD pipelines, and secure SDLC practices, including exposure to static and dynamic security testing.
- Good understanding of SRE concepts such as SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, toil reduction, availability, and observability.
- Experience managing and scaling Elasticsearch in production is strongly preferred.

You design clean, reliable backend systems, shape architecture decisions, and turn data into something powerful using AI/ML.
If you’re a Python-focused engineer who’s comfortable with cloud-native development, data pipelines, and solving real - world performance challenges, this is your space. You’ll be hands - on with modern tech (AWS, SQL/NoSQL, IaC), working in Agile teams where your ideas influence both the codebase and the product. If terms like scalability, distributed systems, APIs, data processing, and machine learning actually mean something in your day-to-day - you’ll feel at home here.
Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff):
- Design, implement, review, and test features in an Agile environment
- Contribute to system architecture and shape the future-state design of the platform
- Build and optimize scalable data processing solutions
- Develop and integrate AI/ML capabilities into data workflows
- Prototype and validate backend approaches when needed
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering Managers to refine requirements and user stories
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency of solutions
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery to production
- Follow and promote best practices in code quality and testing
These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:
- 5+ years’ experience in a hands-on development role at a commercial software company
- Strong experience with Python and common libs
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, preferably PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch
- Solid experience with cloud native development (preferably AWS)
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK (TypeScript)
- Problem-solver attitude - Technology agnostic approach
- Good written and oral communications
- Solid troubleshooting ability and skills
- Ability to contribute to the effectiveness of a high-performing agile team, and to the product innovation.
- Successfully manage own workload, and take personal responsibility and ownership for delivery, behaviors, and self-improvement
- Keen to improve processes and share knowledge across the team.
It would be great if you had these to, but we’ll support you if you don’t:
- Experience with system design and scalable distributed systems
- Proven experience building and maintaining data pipelines
- Experience with Apache Spark and/or Apache Airflow
- Familiarity with AI/ML models and their integration into data pipelines
- Understanding of cost-efficient data and AI processing
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud deployments (e.g., Docker, GitHub Actions)
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
