The role

You will own and drive the execution of Vortexa’s most critical cross-functional initiatives, operating model, and performance cadence. Acting with delegated authority from the COO, you will align teams, force prioritisation, unblock execution, and ensure delivery of outcomes - not just activity.

This is not a reporting or coordination role. It is a hands-on execution leadership position accountable for delivering the company’s highest-priority strategic initiatives.

1. COO Partnership & Executive Enablement

  • Act as a trusted extension of the COO with real execution ownership.
  • Partner with the COO and executive team to translate strategy into execution – including strategic initiatives, execution plans, and clear outcomes.
  • Drive clear, consistent communication of priorities and progress across the company.
  • Operate with delegated authority to escalate and unblock decisions at pace.

2. Cross‑Functional Execution Leadership

  • Lead company-critical initiatives end-to-end, cutting across functions.
  • Act as a trusted operator and integrator – driving alignment, execution focus, and clear accountability, particularly during periods of change on increased complexity.
  • Bring structure and urgency – ensuring initiatives are properly scoped, resourced, sequenced, and delivered with discipline.
  • Surface and resolve priority, dependency, and accountability conflicts to ensure delivery against company objectives.
  • Hold teams accountable for outcomes and results, not activity.

3. Strategy Execution & Operating Rhythms

  • Own and continuously improve Vortexa’s operating rhythms, including OKRs, strategic initiatives, business operating reviews, and leadership updates.
  • Represent the COO in execution‑focused forums when appropriate.
  • Identify execution risks and performance gaps early; surface cross-functional dependencies and drive decisive resolution.
  • Partner with the COO in business planning and reporting, including Board materials, and strategic planning processes.

4. Operational Excellence & Performance Management

  • Strengthen the company’s operating model, governance, and decision‑making processes – reinforcing a culture of accountability and high-performance.
  • Define and embed enterprise‑level performance metrics/KPIs clearly connected to strategy.
  • Drive simplification, process improvement, and execution quality as the company scales.
  • Drive data‑driven performance discussions at leadership and executive forums.
  • Enable timely course‑correction where delivery against objectives is at risk.

Requirements

You Should have

  • Proven operator with experience scaling a high-growth technology business
  • Track record in delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes
  • Deep experience designing and running operating rhythms, planning processes, and performance cadences.
  • Experience building execution and insights capabilities as organisations scale
  • Exceptional operational judgement, bias for action, and comfort constructively challenging senior leaders.

About Vortexa

Every year, Vortexa tracks and predicts over $2 trillion worth of waterborne oil and gas cargo across the globe, painting a comprehensive picture of the global energy market and uncovering trends that shape the world's economy.

Today’s reality is that most of our lifestyles are heavily dependent on oil-derived products. From aspirin and surfboards to fuelling your work commute (bike tyres included!), oil plays a significant role in our health, comfort and safety, impacting our day to day.

Our platform is improving the accessibility, transparency and efficiency of information to benefit everyone in the energy ecosystem, including trading and shipping, NGOs, regulatory bodies, and consecutively the everyday consumer.

At its core, Vortexa generates, collects and analyses global data on seaborne oil and gas cargo movements. Since our launch in 2016, we have aggregated a staggering 146 + TB of data, influencing shipping strategies, supporting news stories and providing context to trades across several commodity exchanges. All of this has been made possible by the rapid growth of satellite technology and the concerted efforts of our experienced analysts, powering our artificial intelligence and machine learning tools. Founded by Fabio Kuhn, former Head of Trading Technology and Analytics at BP, and Etienne Amic, former Head of European Energy at JP Morgan and Mercuria.

Working at Vortexa is fast-paced yet extremely rewarding - we set big goals, encourage brave ideas and strive to innovate in everything we do. After all, decisions we make today are set to impact one of the world’s biggest industries tomorrow. By joining our team, you can expect a stimulating environment with a collaborative spirit; all whilst maintaining creative independence and hands-on approach that only a start-up can offer. All of our employees are shareholders, meaning that the entire team is equally committed to Vortexa’s vision. To support you on your journey, we offer private healthcare, monthly workshops led by our team of experts and socials every Friday to thank you for all the hard work put in during the week.

As a technology company, we are in a unique position to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity in our industry. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and guarantee all of our team members the same opportunities and rewards regardless of their gender, race, belief system or ability.
