Job Summary
The Surgical Oncologist will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and surgically managing patients with solid organ malignancies. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and a patient-centric care experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage patients with suspected or confirmed malignancies requiring surgical intervention.
- Perform oncological surgeries in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Pathology, and other specialities.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions.
- Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and post-operative care.
- Ensure comprehensive pre-operative assessment and post-operative follow-up.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and medical records.
- Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to hospital protocols, infection control standards, NABH guidelines, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in clinical audits, academic activities, CMEs, and research initiatives.
- Mentor junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff where applicable.
- Contribute to departmental growth, patient education initiatives, and outreach programs.
Qualifications
- MBBS
- MS (General Surgery)
- MCh/DNB in Surgical Oncology
- Valid National Medical Commission (NMC) registration
Experience
- Consultant: 2–5 years of experience post MCh/DNB
- Senior Consultant: 6+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in tertiary care hospitals or dedicated cancer centres will be preferred.
