Independence Preparatory Academy is a new, academically challenging, highly structured, and joyful K-8 school in Fairfield, AL. We are on a mission to equip all students with the academic tenacity and strength of character necessary to choose their destiny and create a fulfilling life. In August 2025, Independence Preparatory Academy opened its doors to 60 students in kindergarten through second grade. We will continue to grow until we reach a total capacity of 485 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. We are actively building a team that shares our belief that with rigorous academics, high-quality instruction, and character development, all students can excel in high school, college, and life.
Position Summary
The On-Call Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher while maintaining a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment. Assignments may vary by grade level and subject area based on school needs.
Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.
- Foster a positive, respectful classroom culture.
- Supervise students throughout the instructional day.
- Maintain accurate attendance and classroom records.
- Communicate effectively with school administrators and staff.
- Follow all school policies and emergency procedures.
- Leave detailed notes regarding the day's activities and student progress.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
- Previous classroom or substitute teaching experience
- Ability to successfully pass all required background screenings
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree
- Alabama Substitute Teacher Certification (if applicable)
Schedule
- On-call, as needed
- School hours generally between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
- Flexible scheduling based on your availability
