About this Student Cook - Grille (AY 26-27 902162) role at Middlebury College
The Grille Student Cook position focuses on food preparation during hours that the Grille/ Community Table is open for service. This is a hands-on role that involves supporting full time employees in providing high quality, “made to order” meals to students and the Middlebury community in a fast-paced environment.
This position is included in the Student Wage Scale and will be paid $16.75/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food preparation such as slicing vegetables, making sauces, frying, grilling meats, and portioning ingredients according to recipes.
- Ensure that all food items meet quality standards for taste, presentation, and freshness.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment and work areas including washing dishes and taking out trash and compost throughout shift.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation practices to protect the health and well-being of our customers.
- Work closely with fellow employees to ensure smooth operation during service. Foster a positive and cooperative work environment.
- Adhere to all Middlebury College and Dining Service policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled as a student at Middlebury College.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Completion of provided SERVsafe training, including passing a 40-question test, within 14 days of hiring.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends. Must also be reliable and commit to agreed upon scheduled hours.
- Physically able to lift 10-15 pounds many times during shift and up to 45 pounds occasionally.
- This position involves standing for long periods of time and frequent bending and overhead reaching.
Additional information:
- Experience in food service is preferred but not required! Training will be provided.
- One shift meal is provided each day worked.
- Opportunities to pick up additional hours and learn other positions within Retail Dining.
Student Employment Eligibility:
Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.
Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.
Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.
Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.
Hour Limitations:
All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
