About this Sr. eCommerce Full Stack Developer (Contractor - Remote in Eastern Europe) role at Apex Wheels
Who are we?
Apex Wheels creates Real Performance wheels for drivers everywhere. That means designing and manufacturing wheels that don’t just look the part, but truly improve performance in a measurable way. Born on the track and raised in California, Apex was founded in 2007 as a passion project by diehard motorsport enthusiasts and has produced function-first, race-proven wheels ever since. Now boasting a team of 40+ staff members, all Apex products are designed by an in-house team of engineers who are just as passionate about motorsports as you.
Objective
Our senior full-stack developer will build and evolve our storefront (headless Nuxt4/Vue 3 front end, Sanity CMS, Magento2 commerce backend). Your mission is to ship good quality features timely, keep the site fast, and fix what breaks. Ultimately, your work here will enable our sales and marketing teams to move faster.
How to apply
In the space provided for your cover letter, tell us about your connection to automotive or motorsports culture. If you’re not an enthusiast, tell us what you are passionate about outside of your work.
Job Summary
You'll be joining an established codebase, not starting from a blank page. Your focus is the customer-facing experience and the content that powers it: shipping features that make the site a better place to shop, sharpening the UX, and keeping things fast, reliable, and easy to publish to.
This is a senior individual-contributor role, not a management one. Most of your time goes into writing and reviewing code - reading existing implementations closely before changing them, refactoring what holds the platform back, and helping set the patterns the rest of the work follows. You'll make meaningful technical decisions and contributions and have real influence over how the storefront evolves, working alongside the technical lead, the rest of the engineering team, and external partners. Close collaboration with stakeholders across the project is a core part of the role - and with it comes the opportunity to help shape the outcomes you're working toward.
We use AI tools to enhance how we build - accelerating the routine work and freeing us to focus on the hard problems. But we stay fully responsible for the code we ship: AI is a multiplier, not a substitute for judgment. This is a business that depends on a dependable storefront, so we hold a high bar for reliability in everything that reaches production.
There's real satisfaction in this work. You'll be building an e-commerce experience for genuinely passionate customers - people who care deeply about their cars and how they perform - alongside a team that's just as passionate, and that knows its areas of expertise.
What you'll do
- Build and ship customer-facing features across the storefront - product discovery and listing pages, cart and checkout-adjacent flows, and editorial/content pages — in Nuxt 4 and Vue 3 with TypeScript.
- Model content in Sanity, collaboratively with the technical lead, and write and maintain the GROQ projections that carry it through the sync pipeline (GROQ projection → content transform → content API), so what editors publish reliably reaches the storefront in the right shape.
- Keep the storefront fast and discoverable - tuning Core Web Vitals, managing bundle and asset weight, and working with the SSR/ISR caching model so pages stay quick and SEO holds up.
- Debug the content-to-storefront path end to end when it misbehaves — a missing field, stale content, a slow page - implementing the fix rather than routing around it, with support from the technical lead where it reaches into the data layer.
- Integrate with the commerce and payment layers — the Magento 2 APIs and the site's payment flows - in collaboration with the rest of the team and external partners.
- Keep the codebase healthy - maintain a clean, reusable component architecture, add test coverage as you go (Vitest), and take part in code review.
- Contribute to technical decisions and to the direction of the platform.
- Other duties as assigned.
About the Environment
This job can work remotely from Poland or Croatia - we’ll consider other regional countries for the right candidate. Your core team works a combination of Central European and Pacific hours, so expect to work a schedule that best supports them.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. Light lifting may be required. Ability to travel by ground or air to attend team-building events. There is a potential for annual international travel. Regular, predictable attendance is required. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to C2, C1 proficiency.
Our Selection Process
Apex is a founder-led organization deeply rooted in our values. Each individual at Apex meaningfully contributes to our success - there’s no hiding in our small team, and so every great new hire has the potential to positively impact our work and culture. Our selection process is rigorous with the goal of finding the best overall fit for each position. We use Predictive Index, an EEOC-compliant assessment tool, to measure behavioral drives and cognitive ability as one of many indicators of potential job fit. We meet virtually with candidates multiple times because, while first impressions matter, mutual alignment and capabilities matter more. We often engage our finalists in a short-term paid work assignment before making the final determination to engage in a long-term contract.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional frontend development, with deep, hands-on mastery of Vue 3 (Composition API) in large, production applications.
- Strong Nuxt experience — SSR/SSG, file-based routing, Nitro server routes, and render/route caching - comfortable on both the client and server side.
- Fluency in TypeScript, writing clean, type-safe code end to end.
- Solid command of Pinia (or a comparable state tool) and Tailwind CSS.
- Production experience with a headless CMS and query language - Sanity + GROQ specifically, or clearly transferable experience (e.g. Contentful, Prismic) - including building and extending content models.
- Confidence integrating a decoupled storefront with backend commerce/content APIs over REST, shaping responses into typed, frontend-ready data.
- A real focus on performance and SEO - Core Web Vitals, bundle/asset weight, SSR/ISR-aware caching.
- Experience writing and maintaining tests (Vitest) and extending an existing suite, not just greenfield code.
- Comfort owning an inherited, partly-documented codebase - building a mental model from code and docs before changing it; pragmatic about existing patterns and tech debt.
- Valuable: enough SQL / ORM (Prisma/Postgres) reading to query the synced data and reason about why a field isn't reaching a page. (Deep ownership of the data infrastructure sits with the technical lead.)
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Magento 2.
- Hands-on experience with Vercel or a similar serverless platform (ISR, route rules, edge functions, cron, deployment workflow).
- Experience integrating third-party payment and buy-now-pay-later providers.
- Experience with error monitoring and performance tooling (e.g. Sentry).
- Experience using LLM/AI tooling in a content workflow.
Benefits
- Long-term contract. Annualized compensation ranges from $70 - 85K USD depending on experience.
- Motorsports lifestyle benefits to get you involved in the community as deeply as you’d like. Think reimbursements for event spectator tickets, karting and karting school, sim racing gear, track day insurance, SCCA compliant gear, and premium events like DirtFish and SkipBarber. Plus, huge employee discounts on our products and free merch!
- A modern professional work environment supported through remote work, almost anywhere in the contiguous U.S. and Europe, and casual in-office dress (t-shirts and jeans are normal for us). Our in-person company events often include sim-racing, karting, spectator events, and visits to some of our favorite places in Northern California.
