Overview

The Software Engineer in Quality is a senior engineering role focused on building and embedding quality engineering practices across the organisation. This is not a traditional testing role — the successful candidate will bring strong software engineering skills to bear on the challenge of ensuring our software is testable, observable, and reliably high-quality. Working alongside Senior QA Engineers within the Quality Assurance team, this person will own the tools, frameworks, and pipelines that underpin quality at Lendscape. A significant part of the role will include leveraging AI tools to migrate frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Cypress Migration: Lead the migration from the legacy QFTest suite to our existing Cypress framework, expanding coverage and improving maintainability in the process.
  • Test Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and maintain CI/CD testing pipelines to enable fast, reliable feedback across the engineering organisation.
  • Performance Testing: Establish and own our performance testing capability, including selection and implementation of an appropriate toolset (e.g. k6, Gatling, or JMeter) and integration into release processes.
  • Coverage Measurement: Maintain and improve test coverage reporting using JaCoCo, defining coverage standards and working with engineering teams to close gaps.
  • Quality Standards: Define and champion quality engineering standards and best practices across the engineering organisation, including testability requirements, coding standards, and quality gates.
  • Shift-Left Testing: Embed quality thinking earlier in the development lifecycle by working closely with product managers, developers, and architects during design and planning.
  • Tooling & Observability: Evaluate, introduce, and maintain static analysis, code quality, and observability tooling to support engineering teams in identifying and resolving issues early.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Senior QA Engineers and software developers to identify automation opportunities, share knowledge, and raise the quality bar across the team.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills, with hands-on experience writing and maintaining Cypress test suites.
  • Excellent knowledge of AI tooling and the ability to leverage AI effectively in engineering and quality workflows, especially for migration of frameworks.
  • Solid Java knowledge sufficient to read, understand, and work within a Java/Spring Boot codebase — writing Java tests is not required.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally including test automation stages.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as k6, Gatling, or JMeter.
  • Familiarity with code coverage tooling, particularly JaCoCo.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies: unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and performance testing.
  • Experience with automated API testing.
  • Proficiency with Git and version control best practices.
  •
  • Ability to define and communicate quality standards and advocate for quality engineering practices across teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis and defect investigation.
  • Bonus: familiarity with QFTest or experience migrating from legacy test frameworks.
