Your Mission:
We are looking for a Senior Enterprise Architect – Core Payments Processing to join our Architecture team. Reporting to the VP of Architecture, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the architecture of Nuvei’s next-generation payment processing platforms.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing and guiding the implementation of highly scalable, resilient, and secure transaction-processing systems supporting global payment operations. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Data teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.
This role requires deep experience in real-time distributed systems, fintech/payment platforms, and modernization of large-scale systems, as well as the ability to influence cross-functional teams and ensure architectural integrity throughout delivery.
You will help evolve Nuvei’s platform by balancing long-term architecture strategy with pragmatic delivery, enabling the company to scale its global payment capabilities while maintaining reliability, compliance, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture design for complex payment processing initiatives across Nuvei’s core platform.
- Translate product and business requirements into scalable and resilient architecture designs, covering functional and non-functional requirements such as performance, availability, security, and compliance.
- Drive the architecture of real-time distributed systems supporting payment authorization, transaction routing, and processing flows.
- Guide engineering teams in implementing architecture decisions and ensure adherence to architectural standards throughout development and delivery.
- Define integration patterns and service boundaries across microservices and platform components.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives, including decomposition of legacy systems, migration strategies, and evolution toward cloud-ready architectures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, DevOps, Security, Data) to ensure solutions are aligned with business goals and technical strategy.
- Participate in architecture reviews, design governance, and technical decision-making across the organization.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software architecture, solution architecture, or senior engineering roles in complex distributed systems.
- Strong experience designing high-volume, real-time transaction processing systems, preferably in payments, fintech, or financial services.
- Hands-on experience with distributed architectures, microservices, event-driven systems, and API-based platforms.
- Experience with technologies such as Kafka or other streaming platforms, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), cloud infrastructure, and modern data platforms.
- Solid understanding of payment ecosystems, including card payments, alternative payment methods, and transaction lifecycle concepts.
- Experience designing systems with strong availability, resiliency, and fault-tolerance requirements.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in environments undergoing platform modernization or legacy system evolution.
