About this Senior Electrical Design Engineer role at Solarvest

Solarvest · Onsite · Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer leads the electrical design function for utility-scale and C&I solar PV projects across the full EPCC cycle. This role combines deep technical expertise in DC/AC system design with the ability to mentor junior engineers, coordinate cross-functional teams, and uphold the highest standards in drawing quality, documentation, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be a key technical authority within the engineering team and a trusted point of contact for project stakeholders.

Design & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the production of comprehensive PV electrical design drawings covering DC and AC systems, from concept through to construction and as-built stages.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for DC/AC electrical system verification and design clarification, providing guidance to engineers and drafters.
  • Review and approve all design drawings, specifications, and deliverables; initiate, track, and close out necessary revisions.
  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, load flow analyses, and cable sizing calculations for solar PV projects.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable Philippine standards (PEC, OSHS), IEC standards, and utility grid connection requirements.

Drawing Management & Documentation

  • Manage the preparation of tender, construction, shop, and as-built drawings in accordance with project milestones and client requirements.
  • Oversee and enforce CAD standards across all projects; ensure a rigorous drawing revision and version control system is maintained.
  • Lead the compilation and quality assurance of as-built documentation packages for handover.
  • Coordinate with qualified persons (PRC-licensed engineers, local consultants) for drawing submissions, regulatory approvals, and permit applications.

3D Modelling & Coordination

  • Produce and review 3-dimensional models using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or SketchUp to support design coordination, clash detection, and client presentations.
  • Coordinate with civil/structural and mechanical disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level electrical design engineers, reviewing their work and facilitating their technical growth.
  • Contribute to standardisation efforts — developing design templates, calculation sheets, and reference guides for the engineering team.
  • Support business development activities through technical input on proposals, tender submissions, and client presentations.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; PRC licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) or Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design, with at least 3 years in solar PV or renewable energy EPCC projects.
  • Demonstrated experience handling utility-scale (1 MWp and above) and C&I rooftop solar PV projects from design to commissioning.
  • Solid understanding of Philippine Electrical Code (PEC), distribution utility interconnection standards, and DOE/ERC regulatory requirements for solar projects.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; working knowledge of SolidWorks and/or SketchUp.
  • Experience with PV system design and simulation tools (e.g. PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent).
  • Competence in electrical calculations including cable sizing, voltage drop, protection coordination, and energy yield analysis.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, monitoring systems, and grid-tied inverter configurations is an advantage.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong leadership presence — able to take ownership of the design function and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical matters clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with exemplary follow-up discipline and the ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
  • Committed to high standards of integrity, professionalism, and collaborative team culture.
