About this Senior Accountant role at Momsmeals
Mom’s Meals is seeking a Senior Accountant to support key accounting and finance activities, including monthly close, financial reporting, tax filings, audit support, budgeting, inventory accounting, and process improvement initiatives. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting internal controls, and partnering with departments across the organization.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities. This role requires strong accounting knowledge, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with both finance and non-finance teams.
Preference will be given to local candidates to the Des Moines, IA area. If a remote candidate is selected, they will be required to travel to our headquarters in Ankeny, IA (company paid) on their first 1-3 days for orientation.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to
- Support the monthly close process, including preparation of account reconciliations, income statement analysis, accruals, and journal entries
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports for internal and external reporting needs
- Assist with annual financial audits, 401(k) audits, and annual budgeting activities
- Manage fixed asset accounting processes, including capital spend reporting, fixed asset ledger maintenance, depreciation schedules, and related reconciliations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual state and local tax filings, including local business taxes, sales and use tax, and property tax filings
- Complete department labor reporting and analysis
- Support the production payroll process as needed
- Partner with departments across Mom’s Meals to improve, document, and maintain internal control processes
- Support inventory-related accounting activities, including account reconciliations, yield reporting, and cost reporting
- Participate in special projects, process improvements, and other accounting initiatives as assigned
- Travel requirements are minimal, less than 5%
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5–7 years of accounting or finance experience with progressive responsibility
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to think critically, exercise sound judgment, and solve problems effectively
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization
- Interest and ability to learn, interpret, and apply complex rules, processes, and procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, and/or healthcare
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Experience using Copilot/AI to drive process improvements
