The Role
The Security & Risk Advisor is a deployable operational role responsible for providing security risk assessment, advisory support, and operational guidance to personnel operating in complex and high-risk environments. The role supports the safe, secure, and effective delivery of field activities through proactive risk management, operational planning, journey oversight, and incident response.
The Security & Risk Advisor works closely with operational teams, intelligence support functions, logistics personnel, and external stakeholders to enable activities across Ukraine and neighbouring countries. The role requires regular deployment, extensive field travel, and the ability to operate independently while maintaining sound judgement in dynamic environments.
Requirements
Ukrainian National with good English level (min B1)
or
Foreign national with Ukrainian language capability.
Security Risk Assessment & Advisory
- Conduct security risk assessments for personnel, projects, facilities, and operational activities.
- Provide timely and practical security advice to operational teams and leadership.
- Monitor the evolving security environment, including threats, incidents, and emerging trends.
- Develop and recommend proportionate mitigation measures to reduce operational risk.
- Maintain high levels of situational awareness to support informed decision-making.
Operational Planning & Deployment Support
- Develop and maintain security plans, journey management plans, and emergency response procedures.
- Support the planning and execution of complex field deployments.
- Conduct reconnaissance, route planning, and operational preparation activities where required.
- Provide deployed security oversight during field operations.
- Coordinate closely with operational and logistics personnel to enable safe mission delivery.
Infrastructure & Site Assessments
- Conduct security assessments of project sites, facilities, accommodation, offices, and operational locations.
- Identify vulnerabilities and develop practical recommendations to enhance safety and resilience.
- Support planning for activities involving critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, or other sensitive locations.
- Assess risks associated with operating in challenging and evolving environments.
Incident Response & Crisis Management
- Support the management of security incidents and emergency situations.
- Provide advice and coordination during incidents affecting personnel, assets, or operations.
- Contribute to incident investigations, lessons learned processes, and after-action reviews.
- Ensure timely reporting and escalation of security concerns through established channels.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain effective working relationships with local stakeholders, authorities, partners, and service providers.
- Facilitate the exchange of information that supports operational planning and risk mitigation.
- Support operational briefings, security updates, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Work collaboratively across multiple departments to ensure a coordinated approach to security risk management.
Reporting & Assurance
- Produce security risk assessments, deployment reports, and operational updates.
- Maintain accurate security records and documentation.
- Contribute to programme reporting and assurance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and security governance frameworks.
Must Have:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in security risk management, military operations, law enforcement, humanitarian operations, or other high-risk environments.
- Strong understanding of security risk management principles and operational planning.
- Experience conducting security risk assessments and implementing mitigation measures.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in dynamic and challenging environments.
- Strong communication, briefing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
Nice to Have
- Experience operating in Ukraine or other complex operating environments.
- Experience supporting field-based programmes, monitoring activities, or operational deployments.
- Experience working around critical infrastructure, industrial sites, or sensitive facilities.
- Military, law enforcement, intelligence, or commercial security background.
- Ukrainian language capability.
