About The Rhode Island Political Organizer
The Rhode Island Working Families Party seeks a full-time, permanent Political Organizer to lead the growth of our grassroots base and organizing operation in Rhode Island in support of our electoral goals and policy priorities. The RI Political Organizer is responsible for developing, executing, and iterating on a program to recruit, train, and organize WFP members and volunteer leaders to help our candidates win and our campaigns succeed.
This position is supervised by the RI State Director, and includes local and national professional development opportunities in areas such as management, organizing, communications, electoral campaigns, and fundraising.
This is a full-time role. While this is a hybrid position, it does require significant in-person work, especially during campaign season, as well as evening and weekend work 1-3+ days/week. Ability to travel locally around Rhode Island is required.
Roles and Responsibilities
Cultivate, strengthen, and grow Rhode Island’s WFP membership base
Lead efforts to organize Rhode Islanders into WFP and grow the Party’s membership base in Rhode Island
In collaboration with the State Director, develop a cohesive membership program and strategy that builds durable organizing infrastructure, leverages volunteer teams, and empowers activist leaders
Plan and execute member meetings, socials, legislative debriefs, kick-offs, and other member-focused gatherings/events
Manage member communications and digital organizing activities, including emails, social media, mass texting, and other tools/strategies in coordination with regional Communications Director and RI State Director
Help grow support for and engagement in Working Families Power’s issue and electoral priorities
Build and sustain relationships with individual activists, members, and leaders
Manage contact lists and maintain up-to-date records and engagement data
Advance RI WFP’s electoral program
Support recruitment of candidates for offices across Rhode Island
Build and lead programs to train candidates, campaign volunteers, and campaign staff in electoral work
Assist endorsed candidates in forming and executing strong campaign plans, including identifying needs for training, tools, and capacity building
Lead member engagement in electoral campaigns, including forming and training an activist leader team focused on canvassing and volunteer engagement in campaigns
Organize RIWFP party building activities
Contribute to and help shape RI WFP’s state power strategy in coordination with State Director, State Committee, and movement partners
Organize opportunities for members to take leadership in movement-building work
Develop and facilitate meetings, teach-ins, and training opportunities for WFP activists
Plan action opportunities, including in-person events, phone/text banks, and canvasses that can grow WFP membership through supporting candidates or priority issues
Build relationships with coalitions and partner organizations that align with WFP or Working Families Power goals
Support WFP membership engagement in candidate endorsement processes and member representation on the State Committee
Raise funds to drive RIWFP’s work
Set and meet annual dues and member recruitment goals
Organize and staff occasional events, such as house parties, in coordination with fundraising activities led by the State Director
Other duties as assigned by the State Director
Skills and Qualifications
Required
At least 4 years of relevant professional experience
Demonstrated track record of commitment to social, economic, and racial justice
Familiarity with and record of competence in electoral campaigns
Clear understanding of the principles, strategies, tools, and tactics of community organizing
Demonstrated ability to engage activists around a cause
Ability to communicate compellingly about WFP’s work and inspire others to action
Drive and tenacity to advance our mission, values, and statewide goals
Ability to work independently
Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with colleagues and partners
Willingness for regular in-state travel
Preferred
Experience managing electoral campaigns
Fluency in Spanish
Driver’s license and reliable personal transportation

Working Families Party is a unionized workplace. This is a bargaining unit position. WFP's union employees are represented by Workers United affiliated with SEIU and the affiliated Local 1115, Workers United.
