Oxford Quantum Circuits · Onsite · Reading, England, United Kingdom

Project Engineer

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.

The Purpose

As a Project Engineer within our Live Services team, you'll play a key role in delivering OQC's quantum computers into commercial data centres around the world. Working across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and customer teams, you'll coordinate complex deployments from planning through to go-live, helping bring the future of computing into production environments.

The Role

As part of the Live Services team, you'll ensure deployments are delivered safely, efficiently and to plan. You'll be responsible for coordinating project activities, maintaining deployment documentation and working closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to ensure successful installation, commissioning and ongoing service delivery.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Coordinate end-to-end deployment activities from site preparation through installation, commissioning, validation and go-live.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, deployment documentation and implementation records.
  • Support the transition of quantum computing systems from R&D environments into commercial data centres.
  • Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, supply chain and external vendors to ensure equipment readiness, logistics and compliance activities are completed.
  • Schedule and coordinate onsite maintenance activities with customers, engineering teams and service providers.
  • Monitor project progress, budgets and delivery risks, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Travel to customer sites, supplier locations and OQC facilities to support installations, commissioning and maintenance activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience coordinating engineering or technical projects through structured delivery phases.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project plans and deployment documentation.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Experience working with bills of materials, procurement activities or technical logistics.
  • Experience supporting onsite installation, commissioning or maintenance activities within a technical environment.
  • Relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience supporting complex engineering or technical projects.
  • A proactive, adaptable and hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the UK and internationally.

The 'Nice-to-Haves'

  • Experience supporting international customer deployments.
  • Experience coordinating onsite engineering installation projects.
  • Experience working within data centre or other critical infrastructure environments.
  • Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMI or equivalent).
  • Strong stakeholder management and team leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
