Sankofa Montessori embarked on its educational journey as a public charter school, receiving its charter from the Georgia State Charter Schools Commission in 2021. We officially opened our doors in July 2023, starting our adventure with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. As we chart our course, we added 3rd grade in our second year, 4th grade in our third year, and will be adding 5th grade during the upcoming school year, School Year 2026–2027. Position Summary
The Orton-Gillingham Reading Interventionist provides instructional coaching, literacy intervention support, assessment oversight, and data analysis aligned with Sankofa Montessori's comprehensive literacy framework. This role ensures the high-quality implementation of Orton-Gillingham (OG) intervention while overseeing the administration and reporting of DIBELS 8th Edition assessments. The Interventionist collaborates closely with instructional co-guides and the leadership team to strengthen literacy instruction, monitor student growth, and improve reading outcomes for students in grades K–5.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities
1. Monthly Service Commitment
- Provide a minimum of 20 hours of service per month in fulfillment of interventionist responsibilities.
- Maintain regular communication with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction regarding priorities, progress, and support needs.
2. Instructional Coaching & Feedback
- Provide weekly coaching and instructional feedback to the three co-guides responsible for implementing Orton-Gillingham intervention in grades K–5.
- Support co-guides in strengthening instructional delivery, intervention fidelity, and student outcomes.
- Document coaching feedback in the Bullseye platform, including strengths, actionable next steps, and follow-up recommendations.
3. Instructional Observations
- Conduct bi-weekly observations of Orton-Gillingham intervention implementation for each of the three co-guides.
- Monitor fidelity to the Orton-Gillingham instructional model, instructional delivery, pacing, and student engagement.
- Provide timely written feedback and recommendations following each observation.
4. DIBELS 8th Edition Assessment Oversight
Provide leadership for all Beginning-of-Year (BOY), Middle-of-Year (MOY), and End-of-Year (EOY) DIBELS assessment windows by:
- Training staff on standardized DIBELS administration procedures.
- Monitoring assessment fidelity throughout each testing window.
- Providing implementation support as needed.
- Compiling, analyzing, and disseminating school-wide assessment reports following each administration.
5. Progress Monitoring
- Prepare and submit Orton-Gillingham progress-monitoring reports every nine (9) weeks.
- Reports should summarize:
- Student progress
- Growth trends
- Intervention effectiveness
- Instructional recommendations
- Students requiring additional intervention or support
6. Literacy Reporting
Prepare and submit Beginning-of-Year (July/August), Middle-of-Year (January), and End-of-Year (May) Orton-Gillingham reports to the Sankofa Montessori Leadership Team.
Reports should include:
- Student performance data
- Intervention implementation updates
- Student growth trends
- Instructional recommendations
- Next steps for continuous improvement
7. Collaborative Team Facilitation
- Facilitate a weekly one-hour Orton-Gillingham Collaborative Team Meeting with the three instructional co-guides.
- Meetings may be held virtually or in person.
- Each meeting should include:
- Student data review
- Instructional planning
- Problem-solving around student needs
- Calibration of intervention practices
- Professional learning and coaching
Requirements
Qualifications
- Current Orton-Gillingham Certification from an accredited training organization required.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
- Experience administering and interpreting DIBELS 8th Edition assessments.
- Experience coaching educators and providing instructional feedback.
- Strong written communication, organization, and data analysis skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with instructional staff and school leadership.

Benefits
Compensation
- Sankofa Montessori will compensate the Contractor at an hourly rate consistent with industry standards for the services outlined in this agreement.
- The Contractor is considered an independent contractor and is not eligible for employee benefits, including unemployment insurance, disability insurance, workers' compensation insurance, overtime pay, Family and Medical Leave, or other employee benefits.
- If travel is required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, the Contractor is responsible for all associated travel expenses unless otherwise approved in writing by Sankofa Montessori.
