POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision of the Director, the Manager assists in coordinating participation in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. This leadership role mentors, provides guidance, clinical expertise, and functional direction to members of the health care team while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Provides patient care coordination, staff education and competency validation, and organization of quality/performance improvement activities.

  • Assists the Director with all department activities to assure a coordinated effort in fulfilling departmental responsibilities with the mission, vision, and values of the hospital.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and manages safe care for inpatients.  Directs and evaluates nursing care. Monitors patient care activities and ensures the proper application of department policy and procedure and adherence to National Patient Safety goals.  Ensures that nursing care is based on the nursing process and evaluates the effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
  • Troubleshoots problems and serves as a clinical resource and mentor to all staff members in the applicable inpatient nursing departments, regularly providing coaching and feedback.
  • Ensures appropriate equipment and supplies are available and resources are utilized in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team including physicians.
  • Provides support and educational resources for staff, participates in planning and provision of education, and ensures staff competency validation.
  • Collaborates with staff and other disciplines to improve processes related to patient care and satisfaction using QI/PI tools.
  • Conducts purposeful leader rounding on patients.  Investigates incidents and patient complaints, performing service recovery.
  • Performs discharge calls to provide patient follow up.
  • Steps into the staff role whenever needed.  Delivers appropriate care to patients, at a competent level, according to the needs of the patient/population served.
  • Administers and reconciles medications appropriately.
  • Adheres to infection prevention protocols.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed consent and privacy.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
  • Participates in continuous Quality Improvement programs.
  • Actively participates in hospital and departmental group meetings and committees.
  • Actively participates in survey readiness activities and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing, BSN preferred.

Experience: Three years of clinical experience in the hospital acute setting with at least one year in a Charge Nurse or other supervisory role required.

Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible.  Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support & Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications within 90 days of employment.

Frequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling & reaching.

Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, climbing kneeling, twisting.

Visual and hearing acuity required; Color vision required for perceiving changes in patients’ skin color and colors of medicines and solutions.  Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.

Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.

HMH was chartered on April 4, 1927, as a memorial honoring the military heroes of World War I. The original mission of the hospital was to provide "benevolent and charitable services" to those in need. For over 80 years, Huntsville Memorial Hospital has continued to set the standard for community-focused, quality care.

As of February 28, 2020, HMH is a joint venture between Walker County Hospital District (WCHD) and Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) headquartered in Plano, Texas.
