Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is an individual with leadership skills and multitasking abilities, allowing them to work in a team environment while providing engineering and project management for the design and manufacture of custom industrial equipment from the initial concept through manufacturing and final installation and startup at the customer’s facility. Some travel may be required.

This individual is also responsible for providing the Sales Department with engineering support for special projects and assisting the Production Department with manufacturing processes and solutions to problems that arise during manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manage engineering projects from concept through manufacturing, installation, and startup.

Product Development & Engineering

  • Create new ideas and concepts for custom industrial equipment.
  • Design, specify, and calculate mechanical systems using sound engineering principles, including mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, and machine design.
  • Design for efficient manufacturing using the best available materials and processes.
  • Design and specify hydraulic components and schematics.
  • Design and specify pneumatic controls and logic.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Develop complete 3D models and production drawing packages using SolidWorks, including:
    • Sheet metal and metal tubing.
    • 3D sketching (hose/cable routing).
    • Weldments and assemblies.
    • DWGs and DXFs.

Problem Solving & Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot and debug manufacturing processes and equipment both in-house and in the field.
  • Work with the Sales Department and customers to solve application problems by recommending equipment and estimating project costs.
  • Ensure proposed solutions can be engineered, manufactured, and delivered within project schedules and budget requirements.
  • Provide conceptual ideas and engineering guidance to internal design team members throughout project development.
  • Evaluate designs to ensure compliance with applicable safety and engineering standards.
  • Perform evaluation and performance testing of final designs according to applicable standards, including ANSI/SIA, OSHA, NEC, and other requirements.
  • Oversee installation of large projects and provide field engineering support as required.
  • Assist business developers with large quotations and project coordination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year engineering college or university with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in similar engineering positions is considered a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Minimal travel as required.
  • English as a first language.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting while performing design work, engineering calculations, and documentation.
  • Extended computer use for CAD modeling, FEA analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools and instruments for testing, troubleshooting, and occasional assembly.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites for installation and startup, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Occasional lifting of components, tools, or prototypes (typically up to 25–50 lbs).
  • High visual acuity for detailed engineering work, reading schematics, and inspecting components.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves, during shop and field work.

Work Environment

  • Primarily based in an office and manufacturing facility with frequent collaboration between engineering and production teams.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites for installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Moderate office noise with higher noise levels in manufacturing areas where hearing protection may be required.
  • Compliance with OSHA, ANSI/SIA, NEC, and other applicable safety standards, including the use of PPE in shop and field environments.
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring adaptability and strong focus.
  • Frequent cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Production, and customers.
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing processes, welding operations, and mechanical systems during inspections and troubleshooting.
