Minimum Qualifications

Must have animal handling experience and ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds

Must be able to work successfully as part of a team

Must also be able work independently and proactively

Must establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders, including department staff, medical staff, support staff, clients, and referring veterinarians

Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
Education:
-
Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited school.
Experience:
-
Minimum one year of clinical experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Previous anesthesia, surgical, emergency, or critical care experience is preferred.

Specialty or referral hospital experience is preferred but not required.
Duties and responsibilities
-
Must have working knowledge of pharmaceuticals and equipment used in sedation and anesthesia
-
Must have ability to practically handle both low risk and high risk sedation and anesthesia including special needs such as MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, airway procedures, and minimally invasive surgery.

Must have ability to teach all levels of learners including starting and peer technicians, assistants, interns, & residents

Must have ability to answer questions regarding anesthesia, sedation for different species from multiple departments, occasionally referring veterinarians and technicians with assistance from anesthesiologists

The primary responsibility of this position is anesthesia, and providing anesthesia support for all AMC services.

Troubleshoot, operate, and care of surgical and anesthetic equipment

Participate in an overnight anesthesia on-call rotation

Work with minimal supervision

Accurately complete all necessary technical procedures and treatments, with strict adherence to department and hospital protocols

Mentor and train LVTs as necessary

Be involved in identification of cardiopulmonary arrests and resuscitation of patients

Assist and instruct interns and residents regarding policies and protocols and perform all other related duties as required
