About this Lead Power Platform Solution Architect (Managing Consultant) role at Technical Assent
The Coast Guard's ability to recruit and sustain its workforce increasingly depends on the applications, automations, and dashboards behind its Accessions Service Center. We're looking for the architect who will own that technology end to end — someone who can turn recruiting and workforce priorities into secure, scalable solutions, set the standards a team delivers against, and become the technical voice senior Government leaders trust.
This is a lead role, not a build-to-spec one. As Technical Assent's lead Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect, you'll own the architecture across Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and the integrations that tie them together — and you'll direct the engineers who deliver it. If you want real influence over technical strategy on a mission that matters, this is that seat.
What you'll own
Solution architecture. Lead the end-to-end design of enterprise apps, automations, dashboards, integrations, and data-enabled workflows. Establish the governance, design patterns, security controls, and application lifecycle practices the whole engagement runs on.
A trusted-advisor relationship. Translate operational priorities into practical technology strategy. Run discovery sessions, requirements workshops, architecture reviews, and demos — and communicate options, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical leaders.
Delivery, from design to sustainment. Direct development, testing, deployment, enhancement, and sustainment across Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and integrated solutions. Own quality: design and code reviews, release and configuration management, incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
Integration and modernization. Connect solutions with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, CRM and talent-acquisition systems, APIs, legacy applications, and enterprise data sources — and lead the modernization of the fragmented processes and manual workflows they replace.
Compliance by design. Ensure every solution meets applicable Coast Guard and DHS cybersecurity, privacy, data-governance, records-management, and accessibility requirements.
The team and the practice. Provide day-to-day technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to journeyman and junior engineers, and collaborate with program managers, analysts, designers, and adoption specialists. Build the reusable patterns, accelerators, and governance assets that strengthen Technical Assent's delivery well beyond this contract.
What success looks like in your first year
You'll have stood up clear Power Platform governance and architecture standards, established a delivery cadence the team can rely on, shipped solutions that visibly improve recruiting and workforce operations, and earned a standing invitation to the table when Coast Guard leaders are making technology decisions.
What you'll need
You meet one of these:
- Bachelor's degree + 10 years of relevant experience, or
- Master's degree + 5 years, or
- Expert-level technical certification + 8 years (in lieu of a formal degree)
Plus:
- Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert via the legacy PL-600 pathway, or an active AB-100 credential (required by the PWS — this one is non-negotiable)
- 3+ years directly supporting federal Government agencies
- A track record designing and deploying enterprise-scale solutions, with hands-on depth in Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI
- Experience leading technical teams or major engineering workstreams
- A gift for turning complex mission requirements into secure, scalable, sustainable solutions — and for advising senior stakeholders while you do it
- Ability to work a hybrid in-person schedule at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, DC
Eligibility
This role requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to satisfy DHS and Coast Guard suitability, residency, background-investigation, and information-security requirements. Please only apply if you can meet these.
Bonus points
None of these are required, but any of them will make you stand out:
- A degree in computer science, information systems, software or systems engineering, cybersecurity, or a related field
- Prior work with the U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, DoD, military recruiting, or human-capital / talent-acquisition programs
- Additional Microsoft certifications (Power Platform, Power BI, Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, security, compliance, or identity)
- Hands-on experience with Dataverse, SharePoint Online, Teams, Dynamics 365, Azure services, custom connectors, REST APIs, IAM, and data-loss-prevention policies
- Experience standing up or running a Power Platform Center of Excellence
- DevSecOps, CI/CD, Agile delivery, ALM, or federal authorization (ATO) experience
- A PMP, Agile, Scrum, DevOps, ITIL, or Lean Six Sigma certification
