Food and welcoming spaces are central to how UVM Hillel builds community. This role helps make sure students are nourished, welcomed, and connected through Shabbat dinners, holiday meals, student programs, brunches, and special events.

The Kitchen and Facility Manager will help prepare meals, maintain Hillel’s kosher kitchen, manage kitchen supplies, support setup and cleanup, and keep Hillel’s shared spaces organized and ready for students.

This is a part-time, in-person position based at the Burack Hillel Center on the University of Vermont campus.

Schedule and Compensation

This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position averaging approximately 20 to 25 hours per week during the academic year.

Regular availability on Friday afternoons and early evenings is required for Shabbat preparation and dinner. Some Sunday, evening, holiday, and special event hours will also be needed, especially around Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover, and other major Hillel programs.

The hourly range is $25 to $30 per hour, commensurate with experience.

  • Coordinate food purchasing, shopping lists, and kitchen supply needs with Hillel staff.
  • Maintain food, paper goods, cookware, serving supplies, cleaning supplies, and kitchen equipment inventory.

Kosher Kitchen Care

  • Maintain Hillel’s kosher kitchen standards and procedures.
  • Ensure that food preparation, storage, labeling, equipment use, and cleanup follow Hillel’s kosher practices.
  • Help students, volunteers, and staff understand and follow kitchen expectations.
  • Keep the kitchen clean, organized, safe, and ready for use.

Facility and Building Support

  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment throughout the Burack Hillel Center.
  • Support the care of shared spaces, including the kitchen, dining areas, lounge, meeting spaces, study areas, storage areas, and supply closets.
  • Set up and reset rooms for Shabbat dinners, holiday gatherings, student programs, meetings, and community events.
  • Move tables, chairs, couches, and other furniture as needed.
  • Identify basic facility needs, maintenance concerns, supply issues, and safety concerns, and communicate them clearly to Hillel staff.
  • Coordinate with UVM Facilities, Residence Life, vendors, and service providers when needed.

Setup, Service, and Cleanup

  • Set up tables, chairs, tablecloths, dishware, silverware, napkins, cups, kiddush cups, candles, kippot, siddurim, decorations, and other materials as needed.

  • Support student employees and volunteers in setup, service, cleanup, and room reset responsibilities.

Student Hospitality

  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for students in the kitchen, dining spaces, and throughout the building.
  • Support student kitchen interns, student employees, and volunteers in cooking, food safety, setup, service, and cleanup.
  • Help students experience Jewish life through meals, hospitality, tradition, and community.

  • A warm, dependable, flexible, and collaborative approach.
  • Comfort working with students, volunteers, vendors, university personnel, and Hillel staff.
