The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production and facility equipment through proactive maintenance, rapid troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts. This role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on food processing, packaging, and utility systems while maintaining strict compliance with safety, food safety, and regulatory standards. Working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and quality teams, the mechanic plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting overall operational performance.
Day shift and night shift hours available.
4am-4pm OR 4pm-4am
with the following example schedule:
Week 1: Monday/Tuesday on; Wednesday/Thursday off; Friday/Saturday/Sunday on
Week 2: Monday/Tuesday off; Wednesday/Thursday on; Friday/Saturday/Sunday off
Position responsibilities include, but not limited to
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment, including conveyors, fillers, tray sealers, labelers, robotic systems, utility equipment, and related machinery
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues to minimize downtime and maintain continuous operations
Conduct equipment inspections to identify wear, defects, or potential failures and perform timely repairs or replacements
Install, align, calibrate, and commission new equipment and production lines as required
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, restore equipment to operational status, and communicate maintenance activities to production personnel
Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Follow all applicable safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, and other required safety programs
Comply with all food safety, quality, and sanitation standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and HACCP requirements
Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency
Identify and recommend equipment or process improvements that reduce downtime, improve reliability, and lower maintenance costs
Fabricate or modify parts and components using welding, machining, or other fabrication methods as needed
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Required skills and experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Understanding of LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, and other safety procedures
- Understanding of Food Safety requirements in an FDA/USDA regulated environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to maintain, diagnose, and repair industrial food processing and packaging equipment
- Hands-on experience with conveyors, fillers, packers, sealers, robotic systems, and/or utility systems in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, including bearings, gearboxes, motors, belts, chains, and drive systems
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems (Sensors, VFDs, PLC, 24-480V, 3PH)
- Competency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with preventative and predictive maintenance practices and maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and P&ID’s
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred skills and experience
Two (2) years of experience in food manufacturing or a related environment
Bilingual, English & Spanish
Basic welding, fabrication, and machining skills
Experience with robotic packing and/or palletizing
Experience with ammonia and refrigeration equipment
Technical training or degree in maintenance or applicable trade
Physical requirements
Walk or stand for majority of shift
Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
Step, climb, bend, kneel, or crouch to access workspace
Operate in varied temperatures from extreme hot to extreme cold
Use of hands to feel/grab objects, operates tools and machine controls, and perform repetitive movements
Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
