The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic II is a mid-level technician responsible for independently performing mechanical maintenance and repair tasks on production and packaging equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role focuses on reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting plant operations through proactive maintenance work.
Key Responsibilities:
Availability: Candidates must be able to work weekends, and overtime as required
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as conveyors, fillers, labelers, and pumps.
- Assist with basic electrical tasks (e.g., replacing motors, sensors, or wiring under supervision).
- Conduct preventive maintenance as outlined in the CMMS system, and document work completed.
- Support minor equipment installations and adjustments.
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Work closely with production and other departments to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Follow all plant safety, GMP, and sanitation procedures at all times.
- Provide support or guidance to Level I mechanics when needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (food or beverage preferred).
- Proficient in mechanical troubleshooting, bearing replacement, and gear/motor repair.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in hot, cold, or wet environments.
Preferred:
- Technical or trade school certification.
- Basic understanding of PLC-driven equipment and automation.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and work from elevated platforms for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces and heights as needed.
- May be required to use a worker cage or lift equipment to access high, elevated areas.
- Use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.) required.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is a food manufacturing facility. Exposure to moving machinery and noise.
- Employees may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures, humidity, moisture, and liquids when working on production machines.
- Exposure to strong odors and fumes from hot peppers and other flavorful ingredients processed in the facility is likely.
- Frequent exposure to moving machinery, wet and slippery surfaces, and cleaning chemicals.
- Must be able to work in a high-demand, fast-paced production environment with strict hygiene and safety protocols.
- May require flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts based on production demands.
