The Grille Cashier/ Expo position revolves around customer service and direct communication with customers and the kitchen staff. This role involves taking orders and payments and ensuring that food is delivered accurately and quickly to the customer as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area.
This is a student Level A position paying $14.50 per hour.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with customers in a friendly and professional manner. Assist in answering questions about the menu and consult with full-time employees to adapt to customers’ special dietary needs or preferences.
- Take food and beverage orders quickly and accurately while ensuring that payments (credit, Apple/Samsung pay, declining balance) go through.
- Assist kitchen staff in organizing and packaging orders according to the guest ticket and hand off food to customers once the full order is complete.
- Ensure that all food items meet quality standards for taste, presentation, and freshness.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the dining area including restocking the condiment area, wiping tables and counters, taking out trash, and assisting with kitchen closing tasks.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation practices to protect the health and well-being of our customers.
- Work closely with fellow employees to ensure smooth operation during service. Foster a positive and cooperative work environment.
- Adhere to all Middlebury College and Dining Service policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled as a student at Middlebury College.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Completion of provided SERVsafe training, including passing a 40-question test, within 14 days of hiring.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends. Must also be reliable and commit to agreed upon scheduled hours.
- Physically able to lift 10-15 pounds many times during shift and up to 45 pounds occasionally.
- This position involves standing for long periods of time and frequent bending and overhead reaching.
Additional information:
- Experience in customer service is preferred but not required! Training will be provided.
- One shift meal is provided each day worked.
- Opportunities to pick up additional hours and learn other positions within Retail Dining.
Student Employment Eligibility:
Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.
Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.
Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.
Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.
Hour Limitations:
All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
