As a Facilities Systems Technician, you’ll operate, monitor, and maintain critical building systems that keep Norview Lodge safe, comfortable, and running smoothly for residents, staff, and visitors. Your work will support resident-centred care by ensuring reliable facility operations, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a safe living environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To operate, monitor, control and coordinate the Utilities and Process Systems, providing water, air, various gases, water treatments, heating, cooling, ventilation, gas monitoring and pollution abatement (recycling program) services.
  • To provide water in proper quality and quantities for low pressure boilers and domestic water systems in the Home.
  • To provide environmental sampling, testing and analysis services throughout the Home and report to the Supervisor, Facilities Services.
  • To maintain a continuous check on all equipment and auxiliaries.
  • Waste management.
  • To coordinate daily routine operations of the Facilities Services Department under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor, Facilities Services.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of all procedures in the Facilities Services Department under the authority and direction of the Supervisor, Facilities Services.
  • To operate motor vehicles (passenger cars, vans, or trucks) for transporting parts, equipment and supplies for the operation of the Home.
  • To operate snow removal and landscaping equipment (tractor, blade, spreader, hand shovel, snow blower, etc.).
  • To provide meeting/function set-ups (i.e. tables, chairs, audio visual equipment etc.) as required.
  • To conduct flooring maintenance (i.e. repairs and installation) as required.
  • To undertake duties of the Storekeeper in his / her absence as required.
  • To participate as a team member in providing Resident centred care and service.
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation and other relevant legislation (e.g. Fire Code, Building Code, etc.).
  • Organize and coordinate required drills and tests of the Fire and Emergency Plan and related educational events; maintain awareness (at all times) of emergency procedures.
  • To be aware of and comply with all Corporate, Department and Division policies and procedures.
  • Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained.
  • Adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routine and additional practices as required
  • Orientate new staff and student placements as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Grade 12 graduation
  • Facilities Systems Technician Certificate or equivalent such as Journeyperson / Technician in another relevant trade e.g., Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC or Carpentry.
  • Three (3) years of current relevant experience in all aspects of maintenance with general knowledge of plumbing, heating, ventilation, electrical, carpentry, air conditioning systems, fire protection systems and security systems.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Gas Technician II is considered an asset
  • Resident and Customer focus
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
  • WHMIS training
  • Good time management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Good organizational and decision making skills
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of this job
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a drivers abstract when requested during the recruitment process.
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
