You'll be collaborating with ambitious colleagues from around the world. We have offices in Dublin, London, New York, Charlotte, Berlin and Sydney.

The challenge

Every funding decision Wayflyer makes is a bet on a business, on its trajectory, on whether the numbers tell the real story. We've deployed over $6bn and we're scaling fast. The models that underpin those decisions need to be sharper, faster, and more commercially precise than they were yesterday. We're building the next generation of commercial credit business and using AI across every layer of the stack. That's the work.

What you'll actually do

You'll lead the end-to-end lifecycle of credit risk models from design through to production, treating ML as a branch of software engineering, not a research exercise. That means fast, reproducible, robust code that actually runs our underwriting systems. You'll build and refine modelling frameworks across decisioning, pricing, and fraud, and develop credit policies that expand our addressable market without blowing up the portfolio. You'll also be the person who translates what the models are saying into plain language that changes how leadership thinks about risk and growth - because influencing the business is part of the job. You'll set the standard for code quality through high-value reviews, mentor junior team members, and contribute to the internal libraries the whole team relies on. This isn't a role where you hand findings over to someone else to implement. You own the outcome.

What this role could turn into

Senior Data Scientists here tend to grow into Staff or leadership roles with broader influence over risk strategy and team direction. We're building a quantitative risk function that genuinely drives P&L - the people who shape it early will have significant influence over where it goes.

Who thrives here

You're as comfortable in a codebase as you are in a model spec. You can walk a non-technical stakeholder through a ROC AUC curve and make them care about what it means for revenue. You hold scientific rigour seriously - data leakage and bias bother you, but you never lose sight of the commercial question underneath the technical one. You've shipped production ML systems before and you know the difference between a model that works in a notebook and one that works in the real world.

We hire for range

4 or more years in Data Science or ML, with a track record of building and maintaining production-grade systems. Advanced Python and SQL are essential. You'll need deep knowledge of credit risk concepts; PD, EAD & LGD, a good grasp on ML modelling concepts like IV & SHAP, and be comfortable working across tools like Snowflake, dbt, ZenML, Dagster, and Weights & Biases. Experience with highly automated lending, price sensitivity modelling, or Customer Lifetime Value is a strong plus. The ability to leverage AI and LLMs to accelerate your own output matters too.
