About this Deputy Chief of Staff role at Firecrawl

Firecrawl · Hybrid · San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

Deputy Chief of Staff

You'll be the person who makes sure everything runs, and increasingly, the person others go to when they need something to happen. Firecrawl's People & Operations function covers a lot: recruiting, HR, onboarding, events, exec support, vendor and financial operations, and the systems that hold it all together. Right now one person owns all of it. You'll come in as that person's right hand, take real ownership of whole pieces, and grow into someone who can stand in on almost anything. This role rewards judgment, follow-through, and the kind of person who sees what needs doing and does it before being asked. You'll report to our Chief of Staff and operate with high autonomy from the start.

Salary Range: $150,000–$185,000/year

Equity Range: Up to 0.05%

Location: San Francisco, CA (on-site required)

Job Type: Full-Time

Experience: 4+ years in operations, chief-of-staff, or a high-ownership generalist role, ideally at a startup

Visa: Must already be authorized to work in the US or our eligible remote-hire regions. We're not able to sponsor visas right now, though that may change down the line.

About Firecrawl

Firecrawl is the easiest way to turn the web into data AI agents can use. One API call converts any URL into clean, LLM-ready markdown or structured data - the boring-hard problem everyone building with LLMs eventually hits, solved.

We hit 8 figures in ARR in year one and more than doubled it in year two. We have 147k+ GitHub stars, and developers, agents, and category-defining AI companies build on us every day. Growth like this is rare, and we're just getting started.

We're a small team punching far above our weight. Everyone here owns a real piece of the product and company, end to end, and runs it themselves - no hiding behind process or headcount.

This is a place for people who want to work at the frontier: an AI company building the infrastructure other AI companies run on, not one bolting AI onto an existing product. We move fast, go deep, and are building the tools superintelligence will rely on to gather data from the web.

What You'll Do

  • Own whole pieces of People & Operations end to end: recruiting coordination, onboarding, HR operations, events, vendor and expense management

  • Be the trusted second who can step in on almost anything when it needs to happen

  • Build and run the systems that keep a fast-growing team organized, and improve them as you go

  • Support the executive team: prep, coordination, follow-through, and quietly making sure nothing falls through the cracks

  • Take ambiguous, unowned problems and just handle them, no spec required

  • Grow into more scope over time as you earn trust

What We're Looking For

  • You're a high-ownership generalist who's run operations or been the "person who makes things happen" at a company that was growing fast

  • You have exceptional judgment and follow-through, when you say something's handled, it's handled

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and wide scope, and you'd rather own a problem than wait for direction

  • You're organized enough to hold a hundred threads and calm enough that no one can tell

  • You're discreet and trustworthy, you'll be close to sensitive people, comp, and company matters

  • You move fast and close the loop - you'd rather ship, adjust, and iterate than wait for perfect

What We're NOT Looking For

  • Someone who needs a clearly defined lane and a full spec before they can act

  • A pure coordinator who executes tasks but won't own outcomes

  • Someone who wants a predictable, narrow role, this job is the opposite

A Note On Pace

We operate at an absurd level of urgency because the window for what we're building won't stay open forever. If that excites you, keep reading. If it doesn't, no hard feelings — but this role probably isn't for you.

Interview Process

Application Review — Send us your work and a quick note on why this excites you. Tell us about something you owned end to end and how you made it run. We care about what you've done, not where you went to school.

Intro Chat (~25 min) — A quick conversation to get to know each other before we go deep. We'll talk about what you've been working on, what drew you to Firecrawl, and what you're looking for in your next role. Time for your questions too.

Working Session (~45 min) — We'll walk through a real operational scenario from our world, how you'd untangle it, prioritize, and drive it to done. We care how you think and how you own it.

Founder Chat (~25 min) — Culture, pace, ownership, and how you like to work. Time for your questions too.

Paid Work Trial (1-2 weeks) — Take on a real, scoped piece of operational work with the team, paid at a contractor rate. It's the truest signal for both sides: you see what the role actually feels like, and we see how you operate. We'll flex around your current commitments.

Decision — We move fast after the trial.

If you want to be the person a fast-moving company can't run without, and grow into everything that comes with that, you should join us.
