The Database Analyst is responsible for the maintenance, performance, integrity, and security of enterprise databases used across education environments. This includes supporting education-specific platforms (e.g., TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, Edval, Canvas) You will ensure the availability of data to end users while implementing policies and procedures for database governance, optimisation, and disaster recovery. 

This role involves working closely with internal teams, clients, and vendors to provide database support, ensure system integrations, and drive performance improvements in line with best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy and data sovereignty standards). 

Requirements

What you'll do:

  • Administer, monitor and maintain databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL) to ensure performance, reliability and availability.
  • Configure and manage backups, replication and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching and migrations, and optimise performance through query tuning and effective indexing.
  • Provide database support for key education systems including TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, Edval, Clipboard, EnrolHQ, SEQTA and Canvas.
  • Collaborate with application vendors to troubleshoot integration and performance issues.
  • Support business intelligence platforms, including Power BI and SSRS reporting services.
  • Implement and manage access controls and audit logging in line with privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities and apply patches to safeguard data integrity.
  • Work closely with developers, analysts and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Document configurations, changes and maintenance activities, and maintain data dictionaries and ER diagrams.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for database and application lifecycles.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in a similar Data Engineer or Analyst role.
  • Strong experience with: 
    • Microsoft SQL Server (2014+) 
    • SAP Crystal Reports 
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 
    • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 
    • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 
    • MySQL (desirable) 
  • Experience managing and supporting: 
  • Education Systems (TASS, Synergetic, Edval) 
  • PowerShell scripting and automation for maintenance tasks. 
  • Understanding of data privacy and security requirements in the education sector. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to IT and non-IT stakeholders. 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and a commitment to meeting tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment to prioritise accordingly. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, intellectual rigour and curiosity, and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
