Role Summary
ALX Africa is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Business Intelligence team. You will build and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics that turn data into insight across the organisation. Working closely with the BI team and stakeholders, you will write production SQL and Python, design reliable reporting pipelines, and help shape how the business measures and acts on its data. This is a remote role within Africa, working African time zones.
Specific Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and improve dashboards and reports that give stakeholders clear, timely visibility into performance.
- Write and optimise SQL and Python to extract, transform, and analyse data from multiple sources.
- Partner with stakeholders to understand their questions, define metrics, and translate requirements into analytics that drive decisions.
- Ensure data quality and accuracy through validation, de-duplication, and reconciliation of reporting outputs.
- Document analyses and reporting logic, and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Skill Requirements - Essential
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a data science, analytics, or business intelligence role.
- Strong, demonstrable SQL skills, including writing complex queries and working with large datasets.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, manipulation, and automatio
- Proven experience building dashboards and reports in tools like QuickSight, Metabase, or Power BI.
- A strong eye for data quality and accuracy, with the ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Skill Requirements - Preferable
- Dedicated business intelligence experience, including ownership of reporting or analytics in a previous role.
- Experience with data engineering or building and maintaining data pipelines.
- API integration and automation experience would be a plus.
- Exposure to statistical modelling, forecasting, or machine learning techniques.
- Experience working in a remote, distributed team across multiple time zones.
