The role 

The Credit Controller is responsible for customer and/or aged debt collection and query management.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage debt collection and overdue debt reduction per assigned account.
  • Identify and match receipts against the correct invoices to ensure accurate account reconciliation and statement records.
  • Track and reduce unapplied and unidentified receipts.
  • Perform receipt write offs for bank charges, foreign exchange, etc.
  • Monitor paid invoices entitled for commission payments on a daily basis.
  • Perform collection and allocation reconciliation by providing and updating account trackers, reviews, and reports.
  • Participate in and perform special tasks and projects whenever needed.
  • Identify probable reasons for disputes and promptly resolve these disputes.
  • Perform reconciliation of all tasks performed in the form of reports and re-bills among others.
  • Maintains positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure performance targets are met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Strictly adheres to the General Data Protection Act and other government regulations on data privacy and promotes a risk-averse culture in this regard.

Required skills and experience 

  • Graduate of any four-year business course preferably with units in Accounting.
  • Two to four (2-4) years of work experience on debt collection and accounts reconciliation.

  • Customer Service – Ability to work with internal and external clients, assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve and satisfy concerns; committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Collaboration with Peers – Coordinates with teams across department, organisation, and global boundaries; Builds and maintains a broad network of relationships with the aim of promoting and developing the organisation.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to convey clear and effective verbal and written communication to individuals or groups taking into account the audience and nature of the information.
  • Problem Solving – Ability to analyse situations accurately; evaluate alternatives; make recommendations and apply sound judgement to resolution.
