About this Chief of Staff role at CurbWaste

Our core values:
• Serve our customers, serve our industry
• Be infinitely curious
• Resourcefulness over resources
• Win as a team, learn as a team
• Do the 1% more
The Role
We're hiring a Chief of Staff to run internal strategy and operational execution alongside our founders and leadership team. This is not a support role — it's a force-multiplier role. You'll own the systems, cadences, and metrics that let a fast-scaling company move faster: setting strategy, rolling out performance management, standing up departmental KPIs, and embedding AI into how we operate.
The right person has done this before at scale, moves with urgency, and is singularly focused on helping CurbWaste win. You get energized by messy, undefined problems and turn ambiguity into clarity that the whole company can see and rely on.
Requirements
What You'll Own
Strategy & planning. Partner with the CEO on company-wide strategy, translating a broad vision into quarterly priorities, operating plans, and the decisions that actually get made. Run the planning cadence (annual, quarterly, weekly) and keep the leadership team aligned and accountable.
Performance management. Design and roll out our performance management framework from the ground up - goal-setting, review cycles, calibration, and career frameworks - so expectations are clear and talent is developed as we scale.
Departmental KPIs & operating metrics. Establish the metrics that matter for each function, build the dashboards and reporting cadence behind them, and create a data-driven operating rhythm that surfaces problems early instead of late.
AI-enabled operations. Lead how CurbWaste uses AI internally - identifying where AI creates real leverage across functions, deploying tooling and workflows, and building an operation that runs leaner and faster because AI is in the fabric of how we work, not bolted on.
Cross-functional execution. Drive the strategic initiatives that don't have an obvious owner. Push execution across the org without formal authority, and make the CEO's job smaller.
Board & investor readiness. Partner with finance on modeling, metrics, and board-level reporting; help prepare for future fundraises.
Who You Are
• You've done it at scale. 5–8+ years in high-performing environments — top-tier startup operations, Chief of Staff / BizOps / Strategy & Ops, management consulting (MBB or similar), or investment banking with a track record of building and running these systems inside a company that was scaling fast, not just advising from the outside.
• You're AI-native. You've deployed AI in real operational settings and have strong instincts for where it creates leverage and where it doesn't. You think about AI as a lever for how the whole company operates, not a side project.
• You've rolled out performance management before. You've stood up review cycles, goal frameworks, and KPI systems from scratch and driven adoption across teams.
• You're gritty. You have a bias toward action, comfort making decisions with incomplete information, and a singular focus on winning. You do the 1% more without being asked. You value getting things done over getting them perfect.
• You build, you don't maintain. You've created processes and systems from zero, not inherited and preserved them.
• You influence without authority. Exceptional communication and the ability to get cross-functional teams moving in the same direction.
• You're analytical. You love diving into data to find insights and turning them into decisions.
Strongly Preferred
• Experience at a high-growth startup through a key scaling phase (Series A → D)
• Exposure across multiple operational functions (finance, people, legal, sales ops)
• Hands-on experience building AI-driven internal tooling or workflows
• Experience supporting fundraising or board-level reporting
• Familiarity with the modern startup stack (Ramp, Carta, HubSpot, and modern AI tooling)
You'll Thrive Here If You
• Get excited about solving messy, undefined problems
• Are comfortable with constant change and shifting priorities
• Want ownership and impact over prestige and structure
• Switch between strategic thinking and tactical execution seamlessly
• Are energized by fast-paced, high-growth environments
• Want to grow into a VP Operations or COO role as the company scales
Growth Path
This is a career, not a job. The Chief of Staff role is a launchpad - as CurbWaste scales, you'll have a clear path into VP of Operations or COO, building and leading a team across functions and owning strategic initiatives like new-market expansion, M&A integration, and operational due diligence.
