Chief Financial Officer

 

Position Summary:

 

Chief Financial Officer is an officer of the board and responsible for the financial management, debt capitalization and compliance functions of the organization. S/he develops and implements the organization's overall financial strategy by overseeing financial analysis and projections, accounting services and financial controls. S/he is responsible for procuring the debt capital to fund lending growth, and for ongoing investor relations. S/he oversees the communication and reporting of various financial ratios and other information to a broad range of interna I and external constituencies including the finance and audit committee and the Board of Directors. 5/he is responsible for risk management by overseeing the complia nee and internal audit functions of the organization and for ensuring the availability of appropriate legal advice as matters arise.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Strategy

 

  • Furthers the organization's overall strategy by contributing general ideas and financial/accounting information, analysis, and recommendations which inform strategic thinking and direction.
  • Contributes to organization growth by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; including the financial implications of acquisition and expansion opportunities.
  • Establishes finance operational strategies by analyzing operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement evaluating productivity, quality, and customer-service improvement; designing systems; resolving problems; implementing
  • Shows visible commitment to the organization's mission and values of sustainability, transparency and positive impact on low-income communities.

 

 

Financial Management & Planning

 

  • Develops pragmatic financial budget plans for executing on corporate strategy by modeling capital, manpower & facilities requirements, P&L performance, asset and liability management, facilities & staff requirements and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational
  • Oversees full financial and cash-flow planning and ensures availability of funds as needed (efficient use of cash, investments, working capital and long term capital sources).
  • Monitors financial performance by developing forecasts; measuring results; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions; and developing improvement plans.
  • Establishes and provides ongoing monitoring of portfolio risk and financial control

 

Capitalization

  • Develops and executes the organizations capitalization strategies, including pursuit of new debt investments, use of loan sales to raise capital, structuring new investment vehicles, identifying and cultivating new investors and managing ongoing banking/investor
  • Oversees staff /consultants responsible for developing and executing investment prospectus for

senior and or subordinated debt;

  • Works with outside counsel to ensure legal compliance

Operations Management

 

  • Manages staff in accounting and Maintains a supportive team-based work environment, and utilizes open and participative decision-making processes. Ensures appropriate cross-training is undertaken for all essential departmental functions.
  • Identifies and undertakes opportunities inside the Finance department for process improvement, cost reduction and systems enhancements that lead to improvements in productivity, quality and/or customer service to internal and external
  • Leads an internal process for engaging/educating departmental staff on monthly financial performance, resource allocation, and annual budget preparation/revision.
  • Negotiates for and manages working relationships with financial & banking
  • Ensures finance department acts as backup to the Director Human Resources for benefit
  • Maintains the corporate insurance portfolio including D&O, E&O, liability, property, health, disability, and workers compensation.

 

 

Compliance and Risk Management

 

  • Oversees staff to ensure full compliance with grant requirements, funder covenants, investor agreements, and all governmental regulations.
  • Develop and maintains policies in collaboration with relevant departments which ensure best practice and/or full compliance with relevant regulations and standards needed to meet partnership expectations.
  • Develop and maintain internal audit functions to support the above and ensure the development and implementation of overall internal controls around business operations.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with law firms to allow for prompt and appropriate support as matters arise, weighing in on most matters in collaboration with other internal stakeholders..
  • Supports Controller on annual financial audit process. Manages all other financial audits & queries from governmental agencies, financial institutions, contributors, senior management and the Board.
  • Ensures that recordkeeping and record retention in the organization complies with applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.

 

Governance

 

  • Functions as a staff representative to the Board Finance Committee. Provides the committee with periodic reports on the financial performance of the organization; works closely with chair in preparing financial materials for Board review.
  • Functions as a staff representative to the Board Audit Responsible for presentation of audited financial statements to the committee, and responding to related inquires & requests for additiona I information/analysis.
  • Attends Board of Director meetings and makes occasional presentations on relevant

  • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Required

  • Commitment to the organization's
  • MBA and Bachelor's degree; CPA
  • 8-10 years progressively responsible experience in financial management, preferably in both for-profits and non-profits, with responsibilities for multi-faceted direction, oversight, planning and systems development.
  • Experience securing significant debt capital to fund lending growth and for ongoing investor relations
  • Significant leadership experience with boards, advisory committees, external organizations, and
  • Experience with grant requirements, funder covenants, investor agreements, and government
  • Demonstrated success as an energetic, passionate and dynamic leader who can manage other professionals and foster subordinates' professional development, is flexible, will take initiative and problem solve, and will work to develop and exceed goals.
  • Superior analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills including verbal and written communication skills, are required.
  • Proven ability to operate at the strategic level (e.g., strategic forecasting, planning, and decision-making)
  • Proven ability to develop, execute, and monitor both organizational and departmental-level plans and strategies required.
