Yard Equipment Operator & Material Handler
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Richmond, VA
Shift: 1st Shift (Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM start, 8–10 hour shifts, with one rotating Saturday per month)
Starting Pay: $22.00/hour (Compensation may be higher based on experience.)
Position Overview
We are looking for a dependable Yard Equipment Operator & Material Handler to support daily material movement in a busy steel fabrication and distribution environment. This role involves operating heavy equipment, unloading deliveries, moving steel throughout the yard, and helping maintain safe and efficient operations.
Candidates with experience operating cranes or other material handling equipment are encouraged to apply. Training may be provided for motivated individuals with related experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate overhead cranes to safely move steel and other materials
Use Pettibone equipment to transport materials throughout the yard
Move trailers within the yard as needed
Load and unload incoming and outgoing trailers
Assist with material staging and organization to support daily operations
Follow established safety procedures while handling heavy materials and operating equipment
Keep work areas clean and organized
Work closely with the yard and production teams to maintain workflow
Maintain reliable attendance and arrive ready to work each day
Required Qualifications
Experience operating overhead cranes, material handling equipment, or similar industrial machinery
Ability to safely move and organize heavy materials
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Strong work ethic with dependable attendance
Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating Pettibone equipment
Previous experience in a steel fabrication, warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment
Experience moving trailers within a yard or facility
