Structural Steel Fabrication Team Lead

Starting Pay: $34.00/hour (Compensation may be higher based on experience.)
Shift Differential: Additional $3.00/hour for 2nd Shift.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Team Lead to help oversee daily production in a busy fabrication shop. This hands-on leadership role supports the Shop Foreman by supervising fabrication personnel, coordinating workflow, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
The ideal candidate has strong fabrication experience, enjoys mentoring others, and is committed to maintaining a productive and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the Shop Foreman and department leaders to prioritize work and meet production schedules
Lead and support fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel throughout the shift
Assign daily tasks and balance workloads to maximize productivity
Provide technical guidance related to fabrication methods, blueprint interpretation, welding techniques, and shop procedures
Monitor production progress and adjust assignments to meet changing priorities and delivery deadlines
Coordinate with the maintenance team to help keep fabrication equipment operating efficiently
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability while ensuring company policies are followed
Work closely with the Quality Control team to maintain AISC quality standards
Assist with employee onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, timecard review, and disciplinary documentation when needed
Offer recommendations to improve shop operations, employee development, and production efficiency
Perform additional duties as assigned to support shop operations
Required Qualifications
Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding, fitting, layout, and material handling
Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment
Understanding of production planning, quality control, safety practices, and cost awareness
Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and support fabrication teams with technical questions
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams
Willingness to work overtime and Saturdays as required
High school diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
Technical certification or Associate degree in Welding, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related field
Previous experience in a lead, supervisor, or team leader role within a structural steel fabrication environment
Experience maintaining AISC quality standards
Familiarity with CNC fabrication equipment and production workflow optimization
