As the business continues to grow, the workshop plays a central role in delivering reliable vehicle preparation, servicing, and repair standards that support both operational performance and customer confidence.
This role is a key leadership position within the workshop. As Workshop Foreman, you will help drive high technical standards, strong team performance, and disciplined day-to-day execution across servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and vehicle reconditioning. You will work closely with technicians and cross-functional teams to keep work moving efficiently, maintain quality, and support continuous improvement as the business scales.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, support, and motivate workshop technicians and assistants.
- Allocate daily jobs based on technician skills, priorities, and available capacity.
- Monitor workshop productivity, efficiency, turnaround times, and work in progress.
- Conduct quality-control inspections before vehicles are released.
- Assist technicians with complex diagnostics, repairs, and technical issues.
- Ensure services and repairs are completed correctly and to manufacturer standards.
- Review job cards and verify labour, parts, and repair information are accurately recorded.
- Coordinate with the parts team to ensure required parts are ordered and available on time.
- Identify additional repair or maintenance needs during vehicle inspections.
- Provide accurate technical feedback to service, sales, and operations teams.
- Reduce repeat repairs, comebacks, and unnecessary parts or labour costs.
- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, cleanliness, and operational discipline.
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of technicians.
- Help implement efficient workshop processes as MEKA24 grows in South Africa.
Requirements
- Qualified motor mechanic with 3-5 years of workshop leadership experience in an automotive workshop.
- Strong experience in used-car reconditioning, general vehicle service, and maintenance.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex mechanical and technical faults using diagnostic scanners and manufacturer diagnostic platforms.
- Experience managing technician productivity, workflow, and quality standards in a busy workshop environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturer procedures for vehicle servicing and repairs.
- Experience using job card systems and parts ordering systems to maintain accurate repair, labour, and parts records.
- Experience working cross-functionally with service advisors, parts, sales, operations, and used-car purchase and sales teams.
- Experience enforcing safety standards in an automotive workshop.
- Experience working in the South African Johannesburg market.
- Eligible to work in South Africa.
