PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Workday Reporting Lead serves as the technical lead for Workday reporting, analytics, and data architecture for the University System of Maryland's MD Connect Workday Consortium. This position leads the design, development, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions across the Consortium's shared Workday tenant. The incumbent provides technical leadership to the reporting team, establishes reporting and data standards, and partners with consortium institutions and stakeholders to deliver accurate, secure, and scalable reporting solutions that support operational, compliance, and strategic decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting and Analytics Solution Delivery: 

  • Leads the design, development, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of complex Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions for operational, regulatory, and executive use. 
  • Develops advanced reporting solutions using Workday report types and tools, including Advanced, Matrix, Composite, nBox, Trending, Transposed, BIRT, dashboards, Discovery Boards, Worksheets, and Prism Analytics. 
  • Translates complex business requirements into clear, scalable reporting solutions and confirms requirements, priorities, and expected outcomes with stakeholders. 
  • Builds executive-level analytics packages and leads projects involving new or significantly enhanced reports, dashboards, and analytics capabilities. 
  • Develops reporting components needed to support integrations and modifications, including Report-as-a-Service (RaaS) outputs. 
  • Diagnoses and resolves complex reports, calculated fields, performance, data, and security-related issues.

Reporting and Data Architecture, Standards, and Governance: 

  • Owns and governs the Workday reporting architecture for the MD Connect tenant, including standards for report types, data sources, calculated fields, naming conventions, output formats, security access patterns, and report lifecycle management. 
  • Architects the Workday reporting data layer, including Prism Analytics datasets, pipelines, transformation patterns, data taxonomy, and external data ingestion strategies.
  • Defines data models, business-object hierarchies, field-level definitions, and cross-module relationships used in reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions.
  • Designs multi-module reporting solutions that support scalability, performance, data consistency, security, and long-term maintainability across the tenant.
  • Establishes and maintains RaaS architecture standards for endpoint design, authentication, scheduling, and delivery to downstream business intelligence and middleware platforms. 
  • Evaluates integration patterns and data-delivery approaches between Workday reporting and external analytics platforms. 
  • Maintains reporting standards, design documentation, architecture decision records, reusable component libraries, and the report repository. 
  • Conducts periodic architecture reviews to assess usage, performance, redundancy, and structural integrity and leads remediation efforts. 

Leadership & Delivery Oversight:

  • Leads, develops, and provides technical direction to report developers and analysts; establishes priorities, assigns work, and monitors delivery against agreed-upon requirements and timelines.
  • Serves as the primary technical escalation point for complex report development, data model, security, performance, and cross-module reporting issues.
  • Provides technical reviews and quality oversight for report design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation.
  • Establishes team practices that promote consistent development methods, knowledge sharing, documentation, and effective use of reporting tools.
  • Provides coaching, feedback, and development support to direct reports and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with USMO and USM requirements.

Strategy, Stakeholder Partnership, and Continuous Improvement: 

  • Partners with the Executive Director, MD Connect leadership, consortium institutions, and functional stakeholders to establish reporting strategy, roadmaps, priorities, and implementation plans. 
  • Advises technical and nontechnical stakeholders on reporting best practices, solution options, data governance, and appropriate use of Workday analytics capabilities. 
  • Leads cross-functional data quality initiatives involving human resources, payroll, finance, student, and other institutional data. 
  • Evaluates new Workday reporting and analytics features and recommends improvements that strengthen data accuracy, reporting operations, and the user experience. 
  • Advances the consortium’s readiness for emerging Workday capabilities, including artificial intelligence and future data-platform technologies. 

ANNUAL SALARY

$160,000-$170,000

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education Level/Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree. Related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis with one year of full-time experience being equivalent to 30 college credits.

Required Experience:

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience developing, supporting, or governing enterprise reporting and analytics solutions, including hands-on Workday reporting experience in a post-production environment. 
  • Experience developing complex reports across Workday Human Capital Management and Financial Management using Advanced, Matrix, and Composite reports and multi-layer calculated fields. 
  • Experience designing and delivering Workday dashboards or other analytics solutions and building Prism Analytics datasets or pipelines. 
  • Experience leading reporting projects or workstreams and providing technical direction, quality review, or delivery oversight to other developers or analysts.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of Workday reporting architecture, business objects, data sources, calculated fields, report security, and report lifecycle management. 
  • Knowledge of data architecture and governance principles, including data modeling, taxonomy, quality, security, integration, and reusable design standards. 
  • Ability to translate complex business and regulatory requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions. 
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex reporting, data, performance, and security issues across multiple Workday functional areas. 
  • Ability to establish technical standards, evaluate design options, review work products, and guide developers and analysts in consistent development practices. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead projects from requirements gathering through design, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing support. 
  • Ability to advise executive, functional, and technical stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences. 
  • Knowledge of Report-as-a-Service (RaaS), REST APIs, and data-delivery methods used to support integrations, middleware, or external business intelligence platforms. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education Level/Certifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience serving as a Workday reporting lead, reporting architect, data architect, or comparable technical lead in a complex, multi-organization environment. 
  • Experience developing reporting and analytics solutions in a higher education, public-sector, or consortium environment. 
  • Experience designing Prism Analytics solutions that combine Workday and external data sources. 
  • Experience integrating Workday reporting outputs with external business intelligence, data warehouse, middleware, or cloud data platforms. 
  • Experience supporting reports across additional Workday functional areas, such as Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Student, Grants, or Planning. 
  • Experience supervising professional staff or formally leading and developing a team of report developers or analysts. 

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Workday Extend, Workday Data Cloud, or emerging Workday analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities. 
  • Knowledge of business intelligence, data visualization, or data-engineering tools used with enterprise cloud applications. 
  • Ability to develop enterprise reporting roadmaps and promote shared governance and adoption across multiple stakeholder groups.
