Department: Technical Documentation Team for Video Security and Access ControlDo you love taking on tough challenges? We need a dedicated technical writer, who is all about the customer. Motorola Solutions is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and enthusiastic technical writer. As the primary writer owning one or more documentation portfolios end-to-end, you will drive the entire content lifecycle from initial requirements gathering and scoping, to architecting the information, executing deliverables, publishing, and long-term maintenance.
Job Description
We are seeking a customer-focused Technical Writer to design, develop, and evolve our product documentation. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, UX, Support, and Marketing teams to transform complex technical specifications into intuitive, high-quality user assistance. You will champion a "customer-first" content strategy, leveraging modern authoring tools and AI to continuously improve content delivery and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Maintenance: Develop and update clear operational, installation, and configuration procedures across multiple delivery platforms, including web-based publications, embedded user assistance, multimedia, and paper.
Information Gathering: Conduct interviews with developers, users, and technical subject matter experts to gather accurate technical details for new products and features.
Customer Experience Focus: Create highly structured, user-friendly documentation that prioritizes the customer journey and content usability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams (UX, Engineering, Support, Training, and Marketing) to advocate for customer-first content and successfully manage change-management.
Process Optimization: Analyze existing tools, workflows, and deliverables to identify efficiency improvements, recommending and leading the implementation of creative solutions.
Strategy & Innovation: Research and champion modern solutions to elevate documentation quality and customer content experiences.
Qualifications
Multi-Format Publishing: Proven experience delivering various publication types, including online content syndication and multi-channel outputs.
Madcap Flare Expertise: Professional proficiency with MadCap Flare authoring, single-sourcing, and publishing workflows.
Modern Documentation Principles: Hands-on experience building "HTML-first" documentation where "every page is page one" (structured, topic-based writing).
AI Tool Leveraging: Ability to effectively utilize AI writing and productivity tools to enhance documentation quality and execution efficiency.
Influence & Alignment: Exceptional communication and consensus-building skills, with a track record of leading by influence across separate business teams.
Tooling Proficiency: Strong familiarity with agile collaboration tools, specifically Jira and Confluence.
Preferred Qualifications & Competitive Advantages
Product Lifecycle Management: Experience managing and standardizing complex hardware and/or software manuals throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Customer Advocacy: A proven history of approaching technical content from a customer-advocate perspective, converting complex technical concepts into great user experiences.
Process Automation & Efficiency: A strong focus on building process efficiencies and continuous workflow improvements.
Technical Toolset: Experience with Git-based source control and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is highly desirable.
Basic Requirements
A Bachelor's degree with 1+ years of experience in technical writing (or similar field) OR 3+ years of technical writing experience.
Legal authorization to work in Canada indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
