Position Overview
United Health Services (UHS) is seeking an experienced Server Engineer to join our Information Systems team. This role is responsible for the implementation, administration, maintenance, optimization, and support of enterprise server infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud-based environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in Windows and Linux server administration, VMware virtualization, Active Directory, backup and recovery solutions, and enterprise system management.The Server Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, security, and resiliency of UHS's infrastructure while supporting key business and clinical applications.

Job Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Administration & Support
- Implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise server infrastructure, including physical and virtual server environments.
- Administer and support Windows Server, Linux operating systems, and VMware hypervisor platforms.
- Manage and support database, web, email, and business-critical application systems.
- Maintain and administer system management and monitoring tools to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Perform server provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
Virtualization, Storage & Backup
- Manage and support VMware virtual environments and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
- Ensure the availability, integrity, and recoverability of systems through effective backup and restoration processes.
- Monitor infrastructure performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives, including testing and validation activities.
Active Directory & Identity Management
- Maintain and support the Microsoft Active Directory environment, including:
- Domain Controllers
- DNS
- DHCP
- Group Policy Management
- Organizational Units (OU)
- File and Folder Security
- User and Group Administration
- Implement and maintain security standards, permissions, and access controls.
System Security & Compliance
- Apply security best practices across server platforms and supporting infrastructure.
- Perform vulnerability remediation, security updates, and system hardening activities.
- Participate in internal and external audits and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in maintaining secure, reliable, and highly available infrastructure environments.
Troubleshooting & Performance Management
- Proactively monitor system health, capacity, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex server, operating system, virtualization, storage, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring issues.
- Collaborate with application, networking, security, and support teams to resolve enterprise-wide technical challenges.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and system configurations.
- Develop and update operational standards and best practices.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding infrastructure issues, projects, and improvements.
- Participate in on-call support and infrastructure maintenance activities as required.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Required:
- Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field OR
- Four (4) years experience in IT Server/Storage field
Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Five plus (5)+ years of experience in IT Server/Storage field
- CompTIA Server+
- VMWare VCA6-DCV (Certified Associate 6 Data Center Virtualization)
