Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) Test Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Roy, UT. This NH&S Test Manager reports to the Sentinel NH&S Senior Manager. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

The NH&S Test Manager is responsible for test planning, preparation, execution, analysis, and reporting for electronic circuit cards, units, subsystems, payloads, and ballistic missile system. This position will learn to analyze radiation test plans and parts radiation test results for higher-level implementation in circuit degradation analysis including Total Ionizing Dose effects, Neutron Displacement Damage effects, Prompt Gamma Dose Rate effects, and Single Event Effects statistical analysis and modeling. The NH&S Test Manager will also provide personnel support to the NH&S Team and will have responsibility for quality, technical execution of engineers. The role works closely with program leadership, the technical leaders, and functional subject matter experts within the NH&S Team. This position is a combination of hands-on management of engineering activities and personnel development and mentoring.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead a diverse team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Physicists, and Analysists to execute a test program on time and within budget.

• Plan test events at a variety of test facilities. Consider time and funding constraints. Track execution. Ensure high quality deliverables from suppliers and to end customer.

• Perform NH&S analysis for electronic parts, cables, circuit cards, and ballistic missile systems.

• Review test plans and test reports for radiation testing of electronic components against requirements on total dose, displacement damage, prompts and prompt dose latchup/upset, and single event effects.

• Review plans and procedures for component and box-level flash x-ray testing.

• Review of industry survivability/radiation plans and reports.

• Communicate effectively and report regular status to Program Managers, IPT Management, and customer.

• Lead a team of 10-15 engineers with grade level ranging from T01 through T05, including college interns.

• Develop and support consistent execution of standard practices, best practices, methods, software and tools across programs. Implement lessons learned, standard practices, best practices, and continuous improvement plans. Lead projects and plans to improve technology, strategic capability, overall design, analysis and production capacity.

• Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary.

• Work with the program NH&S Senior manager and Technical leads in establishing personal program and functional goals and perform performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates. Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching.

• Manage and forecast engineering resources in collaboration with engineering management and technical leaders.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 8 years of related experience; 6 years of related experience with a master’s degree.

• Must be a U.S. citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope (< 6 yrs), with an ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

-Experience working on a Nuclear Hardness program, either performing hardness/radiation testing, evaluating nuclear environments, modeling nuclear effects, or similar experience.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• Formal management experience to include performance reviews for direct reports.

• 3 years of hands-on test experience.

• Demonstrated system ownership experience in requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, or verification.

• Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite and IBM DOORS.

• Earned Value Management (EVM) experience or CAM training.

• Experience with configuration management, scheduling, and cost estimation.

• Familiarity with radiation test facilities, such as Little Mountain Test Facility and the White Sands Missile Range Survivability, Vulnerability and Assessment Directorate.

• Experience with Systems Engineering processes.

• Experience with system or subsystem test and integration in engineering laboratory environment.

• Ability to deal with ambiguity and to meet program commitments in a highly concurrent engineering environment.

• Active Top Secret clearance; Active Special Program Access (SAP).

• Must be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

• Must have the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
