Purpose
•Provide guidance to the Quality Engineering (“QE”) team
•Lead the effort of ensuring that all products owned by the delivery squad meets the business requirements
•Ensures Product/ Software quality
Capabilities, Experience & Qualification Requirements
Essential Experience & capabilities / skills
•3–6 years of experience in SDET, Java automation and strong Software Automation Testing mindset.
•Strong hands-on experience designing and building Java automation frameworks.
•Strong coding in JAVA. Experience with any node-based test automation like playwright or Selenium with Java.
•Deep hands-on expertise in Java automation.
•Exposure to API based framework using REST assured.
•Experience automating backend and legacy systems, including service interfaces and batch processes.
•Strong SQL skills for backend and data validation.
•Experience working within Agile and DevOps delivery models.
•Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms is advantageous.
Key Accountabilities
Core responsibilities
•An Engineer is confined to a particular delivery squad and follows the scrum model and delivery governance as part of the squad
•Drive an automation-led approach to quality across backend and legacy systems.
•Design, develop, and maintain Java automation frameworks for backend interfaces, service endpoints, and batch processing.
•Implement Java-based backend automation without reliance on UI layers.
•Develop automated test suites covering unit, integration, system, and regression testing.
•Perform automated backend and data validation, including reconciliation, integrity, schema, and business rule checks.
•Integrate automation frameworks with CI/CD pipelines and enforce functional quality gates.
•Participate in code reviews focusing on testability, automation coverage, and quality risks.
•Support release activities, defect triage, and root-cause analysis.
•Ensure adherence to SDLC, engineering, security, and compliance standards.
•Promote shared ownership of automation and quality across engineering teams.
•Responsible for unblocking any quality related issues which is blocking the Quality Engineers delivery by escalating at the right forum (People or groups)
•Responsible for ensuring the quality standards and process are followed by the respective Engineers across delivery squads
•Participate in software development process including fixing small and simple production code, review code written by other developers, if required.
•Responsible and accountable for all deliveries across delivery squads of high quality
•Responsible for the quality assessments of the deliverables/ user stories in the delivery squad
•Have a SDET(Software development Engineer test) mindset of conducting RCA for any defects
•Accountable for the automation of all the user stories across delivery squad i.e. ensures that Engineers are not blocked by any issue and are working on the prioritized automation user stories first
•Responsible & accountable for the creation/ updation and review of Test Plans, (TSR) Test Summary Report, RTM and Complex Test Docs by understanding the business and testing requirements of the AUT
•Participate in testing effort estimates and actuals to deliver stories / features
•Work across the squad to identify opportunities to deliver Quality Engineering

•Number of defects leaked into production
•Demonstrated uplift in automation maturity across supported platforms.
