Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Reliability Section Engineering Manager to lead our section, dedicated to advancing the reliability, analysis, and physics of failure of cutting-edge technology. Located in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers, as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman’s SPF semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Indium Phosphide) and providing leading-edge technology development in electronics. Role

In this strategic leadership role, you will guide and mentor a team of talented engineers and technicians, coordinate closely with the department manager and other counterpart organizations, and contribute hands-on research in these critical areas.
Main responsibilities:

~75% Individual contributor work, including:

  • Interface with program offices to understand customer needs and execute work in support of those needs.

  • Plan, conduct, and lead laboratory experiments, research projects, and technical analyses.

  • Prepare and deliver written and oral communications on research activities, issues, and accomplishments to leadership, teams, collaborators, customers, and the broader scientific community (e.g., project briefings, journal publications, deliverable reports, and conference presentations).

~25% Management work, including:

  • Supervise 8–10 technical staff, including supporting career development, transfers, and terminations; conducting performance reviews and promotion actions; determining hiring needs; and ensuring compliance with corporate practices and security policies.

  • Partner with the department manager and business manager to develop and implement program support strategies, provide input to budget planning, communicate and implement corporate policies, and manage section business administration.

  • Establish interfaces with internal programs and external collaborators; assign staff to projects; monitor and evaluate project progress; and identify opportunities for new and expanded business.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field with 6 years of related experience.

  • Demonstrated track record of strong industry knowledge, problem-solving capability, and delivering impactful results.

  • In-depth knowledge of advanced microelectronic devices, materials, and materials analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience with device testing; reliability studies; failure analysis (including destructive physical analysis).

  • Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven ability to succeed in inter-organizational and interdisciplinary teamwork.

  • Team lead experience.

  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 4 years of related experience, demonstrating a proven track record of technical leadership and innovation.

  • Experience leading technical projects and/or programs, with the ability to manage complex initiatives and drive cross-functional collaboration.

  • U.S. citizenship required.

  • Current, active TS/SCI security clearance.

  • Experience with radiation effects assessment; and simulation/modeling tools.

  • Strong background in semiconductor device operation, including physics of failure, microelectronic cleanroom processing, fabrication, and device modeling.

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,100.00 - $241,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
