About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a specialty clinical team in Tucson, Arizona. This position offers a unique opportunity to build expertise in gastroenterology, hepatology, liver disease, and clinical research while managing patients across their care journey.

New graduate NPs and PAs are encouraged to apply. For an early-career APP, this is an opportunity to develop specialty knowledge, procedural skills, and clinical confidence while working alongside physicians and experienced healthcare professionals. Experienced APPs will have the opportunity to bring greater autonomy and specialty expertise to the position.

Your day-to-day work will include evaluating patients, conducting consultations and pretreatment reviews, developing treatment plans, providing follow-up care, and educating patients and families. You will collaborate with physicians on diagnoses and complex cases while becoming increasingly independent in patient management based on your experience and demonstrated competency.

You will also gain exposure to clinical research and emerging therapies. This may include caring for research patients, identifying appropriate therapeutic opportunities, and educating eligible patients about available clinical trials. Monday through Thursday is primarily focused on clinical care, while Friday is structured as a half-day dedicated to charting and administrative work, providing protected time to complete documentation and stay current on clinical responsibilities.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • New graduate NPs and PAs are welcome to apply
  • Build specialized expertise in GI, hepatology, and liver disease
  • Gain exposure to clinical research and emerging treatment options
  • Develop procedural skills, including FibroScan
  • Work closely with physicians while building greater clinical autonomy
  • Benefit from a Friday half-day dedicated to charting and administrative work

What We’re Looking For

  • NP or PA with a genuine interest in specialty medicine and complex patient care
  • Strong clinical judgment and willingness to continue developing specialty expertise
  • Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organized and attentive to clinical documentation and follow-through
  • Comfortable collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Motivated to learn, take ownership, and develop greater independence over time

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, consultations, pretreatment reviews, and follow-up visits.
  • Assess patients, establish diagnoses, and develop appropriate treatment plans within scope of practice.
  • Manage assigned patients and serve as a primary clinical point of contact throughout their care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and therapeutic options.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding complex cases, diagnoses, and treatment decisions.
  • Identify and appropriately refer patients requiring additional specialty evaluation or services.
  • Educate eligible patients about available clinical research and therapeutic trial opportunities.
  • Participate in the care and monitoring of applicable clinical research patients.
  • Perform applicable in-clinic procedures, including FibroScan, once appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Monitor quality-of-care metrics and contribute to established patient-care standards.
  • Participate in applicable APP call coverage based on training, experience, and departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current or eligible Arizona NP or PA license
  • Appropriate national board certification
  • Nurse Practitioner candidates must maintain applicable RN and NP licensure
  • Physician Assistant candidates must maintain applicable NCCPA certification
  • Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients within established scope of practice
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, APPs, clinical staff, and patients
  • Ability to complete required GCP and IATA training upon hire
  • Valid authorization to work in the United States for any employer

Preferred Background

  • Previous outpatient gastroenterology and/or hepatology experience
  • Previous experience as an NP or PA in a clinic or hospital environment
  • Clinical research or clinical trial exposure
  • Experience caring for patients with liver disease
  • Experience performing FibroScan procedures
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills
  • Leadership experience or demonstrated leadership potential
  • Interest in pursuing additional specialty certifications and continued professional development

This Role Is Likely a Fit If You…

  • Are a new graduate who wants to build a strong foundation in specialty medicine.
  • Are an experienced APP looking to deepen your GI or hepatology expertise.
  • Enjoy managing patients and taking increasing ownership of their care.
  • Want exposure to both traditional specialty care and clinical research.
  • Value physician collaboration while developing greater clinical independence.
  • Appreciate a weekday schedule with dedicated Friday time for charting and administrative work.

This Role May Not Be a Fit If You…

  • Are looking exclusively for a general primary care position.
  • Prefer a fully remote or hybrid clinical role.
  • Have little interest in gastroenterology, hepatology, liver disease, or clinical research.
  • Prefer a position with minimal documentation or administrative responsibilities.
  • Are uncomfortable developing greater independence in patient management over time.

Benefits & Perks

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA plan options with employer contribution
  • 4 weeks of PTO
  • 5 days of sick time
  • 7 company-paid holidays plus 2 half-days
  • CME budget and dedicated CME time off
  • 401(k) with up to 6% company match; eligible to enroll after 90 days
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage

Why Join Us

This role gives you the opportunity to develop a valuable combination of specialty clinical experience, patient management skills, procedural exposure, and clinical research knowledge. For a new graduate, it can provide a strong entry point into GI and hepatology. For an experienced APP, it offers the opportunity to practice with greater autonomy while expanding specialty expertise.

You’ll also have a schedule designed to support the realities of clinical practice, including a Friday half-day dedicated to charting and administrative responsibilities, allowing more focused time for patient care during the rest of the week.

If you are a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who wants to build or expand your expertise in gastroenterology, hepatology, liver disease, and clinical research, we encourage you to apply—even if you do not meet every preferred qualification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current or eligible Arizona NP or PA license
  • Appropriate national board certification
  • Nurse Practitioner candidates must maintain applicable RN and NP licensure
  • Physician Assistant candidates must maintain applicable NCCPA certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
