About the Role

We are seeking a Lecturer in Optometry (Teaching and Research), who will contribute to quality research, along with the planning and delivery of topics within the suite of undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses. The incumbent will develop teaching materials, deliver lectures, tutorials, examinations and placement education. The role will deliver inspiring and innovative teaching that enhances the student experience, fosters student engagement and supports students experiencing academic or other challenges that may impact their progress. The Lecturer will also contribute to the supervision and development of higher degree research students.

The role will also be responsible for the planning and delivery of ethical, high quality and innovative research through activities such as quality publication, external grant acquisition, scholarship and presentation that aligns with the College’s areas of research strength.

About You

You are an accomplished academic with a demonstrated capacity to deliver high-quality teaching in a tertiary environment, including experience in topic coordination, curriculum development and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

You have a strong research track record appropriate to your career stage, aligned with the research strengths of Optometry, supported by high-quality publications and a demonstrated ability to attract competitive external research funding.

You understand and value the nexus between teaching and learning, research, scholarship and professional practice, and are committed to translating research into meaningful educational and clinical outcomes. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, and using your interpersonal skills, can build productive relationships with colleagues, students, industry partners and community stakeholders.

In this role you will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant and extensive contemporary experience in Optometry.

  • Hold and maintain a current membership/registration with Optometry Board of Australia & Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • Completion of a PhD, or other relevant and equivalent qualification and/or experience:

  • Evidence of peer-reviewed independent research demonstrated to be of an equivalent standard in the discipline area.

  • Evidence of professional standing, reputation and qualifications demonstrated to be of an equivalent standard in the discipline area.

  • Completion of a higher degree at master’s level or substantial progress towards a doctoral degree in the discipline area.

  • Experience and successful track record in supervision of honours and higher degree students.
