Coupang E-commerce Engineering organization is searching for a Director, Back-end Engineering to lead the Core Member Platform team, defining the technical vision and roadmap and building the next-generation data-serving platform capable of handling millions of Coupang user requests globally. You will be part of the Service Engineering org. responsible for building, operating, and scaling the core back-end platforms that power critical pages in Coupang's mobile apps and web, including Home, Search, Category, Detail Page, Cart, Checkout, and Order. The mission of this space is to create a highly scalable, highly available, and robust back-end system that will be used by all of Coupang’s business with the capabilities to extend to not just the Korean market but also to other global markets, such as Taiwan. 

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Experience leading multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
• Experience as a mentor and tech lead
• Experience in defining technical strategy and building roadmaps to mission critical projects - aligning stakeholders and lead engineers in the process.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to make the platform open and extensible to unlock innumerable opportunities for innovations.
• Solid understanding of Engineering and Testing fundamentals - knowledge of industry best practices in design.
• Deep-dive and handle critical system issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience working on software design and development in Java, Scala, Python.
• Hands-on experience with designing, building, and deploying scalable, high available distributed multi-tier services.
• Large global system architecture design and development experience.
• Experience in defining technical roadmaps and vision.
• Experience with cloud computing with AWS.
• Experience of developing on Kubernetes environment.
• Experience of developing data pipelines with Spark, Hadoop, Cassandra, Kafka, and Airflow.
• Experience with Java / IntelliJ / Spring environment.
