The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Systems Engineer, Smart Implant Systems based in our Macquarie University, NSW office. In this role, the successful Senior Systems Engineer will lead systems engineering activities on Smart Implant Systems systems and products to design, develop and deliver new hearing solutions through the application of good engineering practices. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will provide technical leadership, define system architectures and requirements, support product family engineering strategies, and ensure high-quality products are delivered to meet customer and business needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading systems engineering activities for Smart Implants Systems product development projects.
  • Collaborate to define system architecture, product requirements and maintaining requirement traceability.
  • Driving system-level design decisions, issue resolution and cross-functional technical alignment.
  • Leading feature development, including requirements definition, design, verification and deployment.
  • Supporting regulatory submissions through the creation of high-quality technical documentation.
  • Contributing to product family engineering strategy, systems engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering or Science, preferably in Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Biomedical or Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification engineering experience within an R&D environment
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles, methods and tools that are appropriate for the development of medical devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (and adjust communication style as needed) with cross-functional teams at various levels
  • Experience in influencing stakeholders to arrive at decisions and deliver project outcomes.
  • Experience working in team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Ideal:

  • Understanding of the technical architecture and application of Cochlear products and systems.
  • Experience with Product Family Engineering principles and reference design concepts.
  • Experience in implant development or in a highly regulated industry, e.g., medical devices.
  • Experience working in Agile product development environments.
